Doug, this thread needs more Miracle Pies! If I ever find an A panel, I'm building it similar to yours...

My attempt and one I pulled off here somewhere...[IMG][IMG]

  4. Here is a pic of the "Novel-T" the day I bought it at the 68 Winternationals car show.

I redid the car several time to keep up with car show trends and the second pic is how it looked when I sold it in about '73.

One thing stands out most - custom wheels. With very few exceptions nobody ran painted steelies with little caps like today (or post war).

But I do think the "slave to a period" correctness thing has gotten out of hand. Just build what you like - if it's older than yesterday, it's traditional to somebody.

Mazooma and Lurker mick thank you. I really really really wanna do a a similar build. Curious is it still around?

  8. I sold it to an indian that lived on a reservation in southern Utah. He immediately wrecked it, and the last I heard a dentist or doctor bought it and it was in pieces in his garage in SLC.

You sold that car to a guy who put a SB Ford in it?? (ruined a classic rod IMHO) Used to see it that way at a gas station in Serra Mesa about '74-'75...

Bitchin' car....saw it at car shows...

all 4 of 'em on the cover were bitchin.

Have any pics of Johny Vinta's orange T roadster??

WELL BOYS...the tunnel ram was started in the mid-60s. so that setup is pure 60s. and GRITS COUPE represents that ERA spot on. everything about it is peroid correct. in fact show me something that isn't. GRITS you did a good job with the look part. know weather it runs as good, well that's another mater. so brang that badboy to the strip and answere the question...POP.

I guess it depends on what part of the '60s you wish to represent. I love chrome, but I wouldn't say that you have to chrome axles and such to be period correct. Yes, the show cars all had mucho chrome, many also had lightning holes in the frames and most had deep metalic/candy paint jobs. Now pure home built hot rods/drag cars are going to be a bird of another feather. No where near the same amount of chrome due to the same reasons most of us don't have chrome xyz...$$$$. We see the chromed rods the most when searching the 60's because they got more publicity due to the fact that they were show cars and had plenty of pros walking around with cameras to take pictures of them...plus they look awesome on the cover of a magazine.
The '60's is when hot rodding was at it's apex (I think most would agree). There were alot of different styles just as there are now. Think about American Graffiti...Milner didn't have a alot of chrome. The car that damn near defines the '60's is "piss yellow" and has motorcycle fenders with minimal chrome.[Yes, I know American Graffiti came out in '73, but you get the idea lol].Just my two cents.Grits your car is and will be bitchin' chromed or not. Do what moves you man.

    Nope
The guy who owned it at the time of the cover put a SBF in it due to problems with the 3/8ths by 3/8s merc motor and shortly there after sold it to Carl Burnet. Carl sold it to Blackburn Who In turn traded it to a construction company for a garage. I bought it from the construction company.
With the 39 box and the banjo rear and my driving style I soon broke lots of things in the drive train. Changed everything over to the way it is now. I also took off the severly cracking orange paint and never painted it again.
Are you sure the gas station was not in Poway? Thats where I worked!

Nope, it was by my ex's parent's house....oops, it was Serra Mesa, about '74-'75...

Sorry I misunderstood your place in the timeline, I didn't mean to insult you or the car.

I just thought it was a beautiful, finished/polished classic roadster at the time....no cracked paint, good-looking flatty, etc. This time period was just after the R&C series on building Bud Bryan's classic '29 on '32 roadster....

Thanks for the history, and keep on enjoying your car...

Here are a couple of 60's era cars. The '32 sedan delivery was built in '64-65 and the T-bucket around the same time.

Is that T with the Nailhead still around? I've always like the looks of it ever since the day I bought that issue of R&C. [IMG]
