There's such a large diversity of pics on the net and an endless supply of Government Libraries....
I'll usually sit down for my lunch break and grab photo's from a random library/website then post them after work.

I always bookmark the sites but very seldom get back to the page for 3 or 6 months (if ever).

It's like driving thru a new city, with every turn you see new sites and with the new web tools that Mozilla (browser) and Google have very recently supplied, it's become even easier to uncover 25,50 or 100 archival websites in a short afternoon (many of them are outstanding in their historical content and some just offer up odd and interesting pics).

With such a wide and varied content (combined with Mozilla/Googles new tools) , it's all too easy to loose track of where you've just recently been but it also allows a person to dig into the dark nooks and crannies that where all but hidden as recently as a just few month's ago..

  2. That it is Moe! I'm usually to tied up with my Website and posting to FB on politics. Health issues made me give up rodding. I still have my Packard but she is in storage, I haven't even got the ability to go and start her up or clean her up.
    Enough of that.

Wish I was closer, I'd lend a hand.
It's not often a guy gets to help breath some life back into a truly fine car such as a Packard....

No, it didn't work like that. In '56, all the larger old plates in CA were replaced with the yellow SAM 123 plates. In '63, the black SAM 123 plates replaced all the yellow ones which were no longer valid. After that, when the blue 123 SAM plates were introduced, they did not replace the black plates, just supplemented them. This has been true will all other changes since. Every plate style since '63 is valid as long as the stickers are current.
The yellow SAM 123 and earlier plates that you now see on classics and rods were re-activated more recently when YOM plates were brought into use.
What this means as far as this photo is concerned is that it was taken between '56 when the yellow SAM 123 plates started and '63 when they were all repalced with black SAM 123 plates.

Could be, but it could also be bcuz CA changed lic plates in 56,
so maybe just gave the owner a new set since they were getting
    changed the next yr anyway,,

  7. I truly appreciate that, Moe. I know i have a lot of old rodding buddies i could call on but I'm stubborn that way.

Thanks for the thought. It's this old body that needs to have breath put back in it, literally. LOL

  8. I wouldn't know about Banks. If he lives in the area I'm not aware of it. Biggest celebrity I know of who lives in this area is Jeff Daniels, 40-some miles from Howell.

These remind me of a very small village named TWENTY, a few miles outside the town of Bourne in Lincolnshire, England. In the 1980s a sign was erected " TWENTY, twinned with the Moon - no atmosphere ". It always made me laugh and I believe it remains to this day.
Lincolnshire is a very flat county and it was at Bourne that Raymiond Mays developed the ill fated V16 BRM racing car in the early '50s. Although most testing took place at a local airfield, where it regularly touched 160+mph, it was not unknown for it to be tested on the straight, flat roads around the town on a Sunday morning. If you've ever heard the howl of a 1 1/2 litre supercharged V16 engine at full chat ( like tearing calico ! ) you will appreciate how it must have sounded but no one in Bourne ever complained, they being so proud of this iconic car.

Probably had a ciggie drop down on the floor or into the crack in the seat cushion and poof, torched a 150.

Jeez, at 11c a gallon, gas is just too expensive for some old timers (tires, too!). Gary

  27. Do you think maybe the towing by the horses had to do with the tires shot and gone?
