wow awesome. its funny how great it turned out, after i read the first page of people telling you your an idiot for wanting to cut it up. LOL
What a sweet find, chopping the top is no sin, it is just massaging the metal into a more eye pleasing shape. Do what rocks your boat bro. Congrats. The top on your avatar is just rite! ~sololobo~
Well, after spending the day with Rudy last week at the GNRS some last minute touches were finalized before tearing down the car for paint. I am going to go back in time a little and try to update this thread, to get up to speed as to where we are, so I will be posting multiple pics over time as I find and recover them. Originally we were going to use his web site to update, but things have changed. Rudy has been a true gentleman to work with and has inspired me greatly! Looking forward to getting through the body prep, and paint phase in the upcoming months!!! "Below are some pics of the endless hrs of tedious metal repair to preserve the original floor and subrails"
Looking forward to the retrospective updates - thank you for doing this. The body looks fantastic - can't wait to see it fully assembled
I don't know how I missed this thread. The chop is evil and the car looks killer. Unless a car is a one of one ever built or has some serious history, it is never too nice to cut up! Keep cutting and keeping us updated!
I would highly recommend the Bobby Walden insert. They metal form, shape, hammer, and dolly these bad boys to perfection. This thing fit like a glove already before Rudy even touched it. We had both decided from the beginning of the build that we were gonna louver the insert then weld it in fixed!!!
That Bobby Walden is a talent, I've seen those cars and his work up close at his parties. That car is sick D. Good work! Rudy is a ruler
Time for some chassis fabrication! Took original matching #'s frame and stripped it down, cut out trans hanger then sand blasted! Took out front x-member and replaced with a better 33 that had almost no pitting, but had a typical crack in the center. Rudy then welded, filled, ground and worked the new member to look like new!
Halibrand set in place for mock-up! Center of x-member removed. then Model A grafted into stock 33 member
We decided to use 36 rear radius rods, cut them open, then reinforce by welding a solid steel rod down the center. Then fill holes on outside of rods, grind and finish!
