i was just going through the afx falcon thread when i almost fell out of my chair ! suddenly saw this pic and knew it had to be the car my good friend - engine builder used to race ! he's 72 years old now and always spoke of the car and building it ! car was named mr. b standing for barney which is his last name , i believe the car was blue! roger barney also worked for larry lange ford garage which can be made out on the quarter ! car ran a 427 ford and i remember him telling me how they narrowed down an econoline front axle ! he sold the car and the following season the engine blew up ! he lived in waterloo iowa and raced the car at the cedar falls dragstrip around 64 - 66 i believe ! i have never even seen a pic of the car untill now and would be thrilled if anyone has any info or history as to what became of the car or where it's located , could anyone clean up the image so i could tell whats written on the door etc ? thanks brock
just got off the phone with him !got some more info , this car was built when you had to be pretty creative ! he bought the car as a project a young kid named mcguire ! he didn't have alot of money at the time but barney had a wrecked galaxie he purchased and saved the 427 , radiator , 4 speed and rearend from ! he built and raced the car while working for larry lange ford ! flat towed it with his pickup to neita dragstrip in cedar falls iowa ! believes he raced it from around 66-67or 68 and then sold it to bud gram , bud told him of plans to run tunnel port heads on the 427 which he was informed wouldn't work with the solid lifter cam but did anyways and ended up blowing the motor ! he believes it then sat dormant in the waterloo area for the next 10-15 years then disapeared , hearing it had been sold and ended up in evansdale or waverly ? we would very much like any info on the whereabouts or history of what became of this car ! car was ran in the b mod. production class in the few years he raced it

So thats the car he was talking about at the get together last fall? Larry Lange ford sponser, is that where he worked as a mechanic? Brad
I remember that car sitting along the back fence of Bud Graham's car lot around 1970-71. I always wondered what happened to it too. Looked like it had no engine in it at the time.
yeah my friend sold it back to bud graham and bud told him he was gonna put tunnel port heads on it , he advised him not to do so as it was a solid lifter cam , against his advice he ran them and i think they only got a few passes in before blowing the engine ! car seems to have remained around the area for 4-5 years after that and then vanished
Told Murray about this thread and he had me scan some photos of his old car. He'd like to know what happened to it too after it went to Waterloo. One photo is at his home and the other is at Humboldt County Dragway.
Found this on YouTube. The Orange dragster that is in the opposite lane is my Dad's A/C. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFN9aWMEZEg&feature=player_embedded#t=12
I owned that ranchero for a few yrs. i bought from a guy in Waterloo with no motor or trans and it was all in primer in about 1982. had big plans to make back to a street driver but never did. it sat at my house in Waverly until around 1984 when I sold to a guy from Charles City and I never saw it again. I do still have the original blue bench seat out of it that still looks like new. when I sold it was unchanged from its original days of racing except for being in red primer.
That's a cool looking car; make for a heck of a street car now. The last photo is Humboldt County Dragway which is/was where? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
That's a cool looking car; make for a heck of a street car now. The last photo is Humboldt County Dragway which is/was where? The Humboldt County Dragway was and still is just outside of Humboldt, Iowa. 1/8 mile track now, was 1/4 mile back in the day.
