So here's the scoop: My Chevy has no paperwork and no serial number on the cowl for some reason. The tag is there, but theres no serial number, nor is there any place for one on this tag. So about my only legal option here is to get it inspected as a u-built. What I'm worried about is being inspected as a u-built, it has to conform to today's current safety standards, meaning I'll need seatbelts, heater, etc which I wouldn't if it had papers and was just getting a 53 belair inspected, rather than a 'u-built.' Now seatbelts and a heater aren't a problem, I dont mind putting them in, but what are they going to say about my 8 inch tall windshield? Is there any reason they can fail me for this? Sure I cant see traffic lights when I'm stopped at an intersection, but every intersection has a 3rd set of lights mounted lower in the corner, and I would be able to see those. Long story short, can a chopped roof cause a car to fail an inspection in BC?
Since I'm from Oklahoma I have no idea what you need to do. HOWEVER, if it were mine, I'd buy another car with paper work and transfer the numbers, etc., then use or sell the extra parts and crush the rest.......... So how about an intro?
Well i have a '54 parts car I'm sure i can acquire papers for, but it's a 4 door and I'm not sure if they'd ask questions about that when i got it inspected, as it hasn't been insured since the 80's
if you have paperwork for the parts car.. use that ***le, either way its gonna be a custom, for all anyone knows you made the 4 door into a 2 door..etc. It might not be 100% legal, but its your easy way out I'd say..
Do they have guys named "Bubba" in Canadian prisons? Is the soap on a rope or is it loose... in the shower... where Bubba wants to meet you... after you become his new *****/girl?
Fair enough, I'm just hoping the inspector doesn't fail me for the chop, but i could always find a different inspector.
ive seen a couple of cars go through with a chop, the only worry was if the windshield was of a safety type gl***. most of the cars had a stock windshield cut down. the other was, ive seen local police officers buy cars from friends that were suspect. one was a 30 coupe with papers for a 52 buick. it had a 60's nailhead with buick on the valve covers so he was content. with a u-built they ask for receipts for most of the major components. if you use a small block chev, use papers for a small block car and if questioned by a police officer, claim you used the frame and motor. most likely happy, or theyll send you for an inspection and your back at square one. bit of a trickier situation than my a sedan, since all i need in a stock longblock for the motor number. if you are using a stock motor, use the serial number from that and go through the lost registration process. the number must be clearly visible if the hood is lifted though, unless you make a br*** tag like i was supplied with.
You are voiceing your concerns in the wrong place here and to people that do not make the moter vechile laws in BC. Do your home work with the authorites there as to what is requirded and permissable for inspection/ registration.
so, Mr. Hudson. are you ***uming, that there are NO Canadians, or guys from BC, on here to help this guy out..???? why is this the wrong place, to ask for help... no wonder so many people dislike the hamb.. he was just asking for help !!!!!!!!!!!!
From the guy who doesnt live in BC. You have no IDEA what we are up against here. Its alot different from the states. You cant even legally register a T-bucket here in BC, or any other car with a fibergl*** body and an aftermarket ch***is without bending some rules.
Sounds like you have all the answer you need but I'd suggest the best thing to do is to just go talk to the guy who will be doing the inspection and if you don't like what he says go talk to another one. This makes me realise how lucky I was to find a car that already had BC paperwork so I just had to transfer it into my name.
