I had some I was collecting- old old HOK silver and gold pearl paste and some quart cans of lacquer candy pagen gold.

I'm on a mission to find some again... enough old lacquer to spray my roadster.

I know I can spray it in new kandy paint- no problem... and I know it'll turn out rad... but I dont want too- I'm going to do most of the bodywork in lead. Bird from the shop and I were talking about this- Clean up the acid really well- build it up with a good foundation- like K-36 and epoxy- and then Lacquer over that.

Then it would look like a real 60's show rod- and in 5 years after it starts to get broke in a little... it would really really look legit.

Does anyone have some laying around for sale or know where to maybe buy it?

Perry said he has some black Lacquer in the shop- and I know you can get black and other solid colors- but what I want is Kandy pagen gold over a silver or gold flake base- with pearl white engine- interior- and lots of chrome.

    What about kandy in lacquer.....
how did they candy flake back in the day- was it pretty much the same way- spray the flake in clear lacquer over a silver base? bury it- then coat with Kandy... then top coat with clear lacquer?

I need to find a good old binks model 7... :)

I've got a 1/2 dozen cans of HOK in the garage I'm saving. Other than checking CL or ebay frequently the only thing I've found is the aforementioned Dupli Color. I used some of that on a file cabinet a couple months ago and it sprays ok. The drawbacks of DC lacquer have been gone over before so no need to rehash. I searched everywhere I could think of online to find some but no luck.

TCPGlobal has a good selection of Lacquer colors but not in Candy Colors. They are located in San Diego, CA

I have a boat load of HOK left over from my HOK Candy days. I used to buy direct from Jon K and was a dealer. I would have to look to see what all is left anymore. I know I still have a 2 gallon kit of the awesome EP-2 also.

Jon K once told me if it still mixes it can be used . . .

I would like to sell it all as a lot.

I did a 68 Charger R/T in the Pagen Gold.

Yeah this came up in conversation last night with Johnny!

So ok we have kandy mixed with the concentrate- which I know will work.

I need to track down some silver lacquer, some white lacquer and some HOK silver pearl paste-

and then did they just suspend the heavy flake in clear lacquer?

I can figure it out spraying test panels I guess-

Flake was just in first coat or so of clear.

PPG lacquer is compatible with the HOK just in case. Still digging thru my HOK stuff to see whats left.

    Hey Tuck,

I've got no moe HOK lacquer sittin 'round, sorry:( An outfit that runs/ran? adds in Hemmings called Hipernia? lists lacquer based paint as being for sale, maybe a silver or gold base from them under the flake?

I usta shoot my flake, first with a tack coat of straight clear followed by the flake intermixed with clear, followed by the candy and lastly just clear. This method provided more colour, flake & candy than just thick clear which started to yellow in what seemed like a week!

"Horably ****ed'' sells a hecko in china knock off of a Binks #7 model. It ain't no #7! but for a one shot deal is p***able, and is a true siphon type cup gun for like $25.00 bucks.

All of my luck in getting lacquer to live happily ever after over anything but a lacquer undercoat has been the same-Bad:(

    Rutza ruck!

I would call Hibernia Auto Restorations, that's where I buy my nitrocellulose laquer and primers. They will custom mix colors but I've never asked them about candies.

Don't waste yer time mixing and shooting a pearl coat if yer gonna do a heavy flake as well.....
And the newer pearl pastes will mix in just fine with lacquer clears....the SEM stuff does.
A gold lacquer base, gold flakes (any new flakes will work, Roth, Kustom Shop, etc.) Pagan Gold candy (or a concentrate) then douched in straight lacquer clear.....done....
    Gonna look bad*** too.....

I ran a thread on this same subject about a month ago, 'cause I have some breathing problems that don't work so well with modern urethane paints. I think it was called "does anybody sell candy lacquer?". We ended up with a couple of pages of good ideas, not the least of which is the Kandy Koncentrate in clear. T.C.P. Global not only sells their line of a Candy Concentrate, but they also sell a complete line of lacquer paints via mail order. Oh, flake too. I have been a helper in a shop shooting their stuff a time or two and it worked out very well.

Emailed you some details, Tuck, but I really think you just need to find a boatload of lacquer clear. The HOK concentrates will make them a candy, and any flake will mix in as well. Same with pearl, paste or dry. But when shooting the pearl or flake mix, try to find a FAST thinner, so the flakes freeze in position, instead of laying flat. Not sure they even sell thinner in "grades" any more! The premium was the slow dry, so fast thinner is the chearper stuff. Don't spray it in humid conditions, though!

guess that is one reason why old lacquer jobs had sooo many coats of clear... had to cover the flake

Tuck, Just so you know some of the HOK Candy base colors can be cleared with Lacquer. Now that I thought about it remembered doing it myself and it worked well. I did follow up and some of the current product can be cleared with Lacquer. I recommend PPG clear lacquer using DDL 105 Reducer

That paint should be just fine to use. I shot an old bicycle about 10 yrs ago with some maroon nitrocellulose lacquer my dad had from the late 40's and it worked like it was made yesterday.
