I'm really sorry to mislead you on the price. I was actually wrong. It is in his latest catalog #27 and on his website for $14,500.00 - so I guess its actually less than I said

    you will find it here

They probably would flood the market with 32's if the prices were too reasonable. Right now we have way too many new mustangs and camaros on the road. I would think if the sticker price is dropped , so would the value of existing others (repops) not originals.

'40 Fords don't really look right without the fenders, so you have to add in the costs of those.

While you're correct that he's offering that price, the rest of the qualifying statements imply that you're buying a position in line for the first set of deliveries, and that it's a limited offer. If someone enters that agreement with open eyes that's fine. What I interpret that as is an offering to become an investor of sorts in the startup costs relative to initial production and delivery. You receive a somewhat discounted price in exchange for your patience and willingness to hand over cash money well in advance of delivery that effectively gets used as operating capital for Bob Drake Inc. I personally don't have a problem with that concept, capitalism requires capital, but an adjusted initial offering isn't the same as what the eventual retail price necessary to support ongoing operation will be. There is an element of trust that Drake will be able to deliver on the promise well after money has changed hands.

Again, anyone who thinks there's big money in this should step up and profit from it or prove you're really going to be generous to your fellow car nuts. A variation on put up or shut up would be a more blunt way to put it.:)

Well, even if every person that wanted an orignal 32 had the $ to buy one, they are plainly not available. I would very happy with a Brookville body, new metal or not, china or usa, if it's done with respect to the way it was originally built, and not half *** done, why not?

Well at the quoted price they won't be undercutting other repro body manufactures on price. I'd see the biggest market being through street rod shops that are now turning out gl*** five windows on a regular basis that can offer their customers and "upgrade" to steel for say 10 k more. The quality of the product will determine how many actually get sold.
But just as Brookville and other steel body manufactures the daily bread and ****er money will probably come from selling the replacement panels and trim pieces. We will fuss that the piece was stamped overseas and complain that it isn't an exact fit to the "Henry" pieces but be glad as hell that it allowed us to save an otherwise s**** five window and get it back on the road. And maybe at least a few four door sedans won't get killed off to save the five window coupes. And if we don't like the idea of using "Furrin" parts we can always figure out a way to make our own piece with the tools we have at hand or make with our hands.

Were the original 3w bodies made in Canada? I was told the 32 roadster quarters, and 3w sides are not even stamped by them, some outfit in Detroit area? Brookville may own the dies, but dont do the actual stamping.

Very true but the neat part is the cowl vent is standard - not an extra cost option! Regardless of which body somebody is going to go with, they all ad up to expensive builds if all new mail order parts are used. Also as Uncle Bob mentions , the 14,500 is an introductory price. When I talked to Bob Drake as things were getting closer to relasing a price, his goal was to try and keep it as close to $15,000 as possible and he was even considering offering an additional discount on parts purchased to complete the build for a 12 month or so window or so. As much **** as he has recieved at times , he really is doing it for the love and fun of making it.

    Are they affiliated with Brookville?

  18. I see the brainwashing is taking effect, a lot of people these days consider profit and capitalism as evil. Wake the **** up, it's what made America the great place it is! If the bodies are overpriced they won't be able to sell them and they will have to adjust the price. It is a huge investment and risk on their part and I say good luck to them.

I believe all the 3 windows body panels were stamped at Murray Corporation in Detroit,.. but bodies were also "***embled" at Canadian Top & Body Corporation, Ltd, in Tilbury, Ontario. I am unsure about the 3/w, but the Canadian "***embled" Roadsters used Roberts head fasteners in ***embly.

I am fairly sure (95%) this is accurate information about the 3/W ( I know it's accurate for the Roadsters) However, I could be wrong.

That's good to know. Listening to a bunch of guys in the local saturday morning hangout, seem to know "all" the info, but are often not accurate on the info.

China has alot of "our" steel, so in a sense we would be buying our american steel.

EXACTLY!!! And while I may never buy one of the complete bodies I will always be rebuilding rough ones. What I have seen of the replacement parts these guys have made available has been good. Isn't the availability of 5 window specific parts a real blessing to us? Affordable garnish moldings? No more modified roadster subrails? Best of luck to these guys!!

It's not that we consider profit and capitalism as evil. I think the discussion here is about buying American made products. Spend a little bit more, and support workers in this country.

It would be a different conversation if someone here in America WERE ACTUALLY making 5 window specific parts (& bodies). They aren't...once again, best of luck to these guys...

  27. Uncle Bob.....It's not just California it's he whole country. One thing I have noticed about some Americans over the years, don't know a good thing when they have it right in their lap. Many don't realize they are living in the greatest nation on earth or why it is. Anyway sorry to get off topic.

Well said!!........It cracks me up that some of the guys here really think that someone should spend a **** load of their money and almost 5 years of their life on a project like this, And sell them for next to nothing....The way I see it is........... Put up!! or shut up!!......most have no idea what kind of investment has been made here, not to mention the man hours. I myself have spent my own money looking into something like this (doing the 37-41 willys coupes) And I can tell you right now, The cost is huge!! We almost went with it But 2 of my investors backed away because of the ****ty economy.......bottom line here is, Some people whould still kick if you hung them with a new rope....LOL

Oh and by the way for those of you who would rather spend $1000.00 more for the brookville.......NEWS FLASH!! brookville does not make a 5 window!....And some of us don't like 3 windows......LOL
