Great build , thanks for sharing .... Looks like you have already flicked it , but those triangle foam element air cleaners are bad news , as in catch fire real easy ... Throw it in the bin before you are tempted to use it again ... http://www.google.com.au/#sclient=p....,cf.osb&fp=e03f64200b695afe&biw=1330&bih=738
Carl, the air cleaner I wanted to know about was the one in Post 359 second pic (not the triangled one). I got a PM from temper mental telling me about it....Jim
Jim, that's a Nicson for a boat. I sold it to Carl the other day. I think Obrian Truckers is selling a re-pop of that. Now if we can just get Carl to swap those valve covers ....
Tony What’s wrong with the M/T valve covers? Mickey Thompson was the man!! I picked up some finned aluminum ones yesterday. Do these meet your taste better? <o></o>
Playing hookie with old friends. It was a great day and its just getting better. To bad I have to work tomorrow. Bummer man.
Carl, I just read your thread clean through and wanted to say it is awesome. I currently have my truck down for final paint but like you my parents are still with us and even though they are a mere 6 hrs away we talk weekly about the vehicles. When I was putting it together for the Frog Follies they came down to help me. Even though Dads 78 and has had heart byp***es, pacemaker and all I still found things he could do to help. He doesn't burn the midnight oil anymore like I but he enjoys being a part of it. He's already making plans to be here when I get it back from paint. I have to say I got it honest from him. When my brother and I were 14 & 15 he he asked us if we were willing to chip in a $100.00 bucks each to buy a 33 3/w Ford project that we all could share. A 100 bucks for a kid working part time was a lot back then but I never regretted it. My wife asked what I was going to do when I finished my truck. Well I guess you know where I'm headed. I hope I have enough time for him to enjoy it as well. This March will mark the 3 year point on the truck, I'm not near as quick as you have been but what an inspiration! BTW the 52 is the wifes ride. Thanks again. G
Carl, it does look awsome and you blasted right through it. Man, like I said, I wish I had your energy! Gman, enjoy your folks. I bought my '32 Chevy a couple months after my Dad p***ed away, I wish he had seen it. He was never a big car guy, but he did like the older stuff. Back in the mid '80's I bought a '38 Plymouth pickup off the same buddy I bought my '32 Chevy. Anyway I sort of resto-moded it. My Dad thought it was really cool, it reminded him of when he was younger. He lived about an hour away in Jersey, so one day I took the truck down to him and I gave it to him. He drove around for a couple years and asked me to take it back when it got too much for him. I was proud to be able to share it with him and I know he was proud of me for sharing. Sorry for going so OT, Carl.
Carl, been following your thread since you started it. Great car, and you are a man on a mission. Got to say I'm envious, been working on a 32 with my Dad for close to 3 years, hope to be done by spring. I see the ***le of your thread is "My first", does this mean theres another project in your future? I'll be watching!
Thanks for all the good words, It's so hard to sit down some times and relax. But there is always another project on the list, I just don't know what it is right now. I'm thinking a early 30 chopped ford truck. Something real cool with fat tires and short headers. Like this bad *** truck. I do need something to haul the goods home from the swap meet.
Thats you man have you found one yeat its time to get started lot of good hanging out in the shop and working on the HOT ROD
So I broke down and bought some new Hurst Cheater slicks 10x30's. Great looking tires and they have a good ride. So you get one thing going and then it just adds more work. Now I have a wheel hop problem when doing burn outs. It shakes the car so bad I think its going to rip the car appart. I'm running leaf springs so I tried some traction bars and that didn't help so they are going to come off and I'm going to rework the rearend with Ladder bars. I found some old school ones on the net and hope to pick them up this weekend.
The snubber is about 1/2" behind the roll. It should be close enough to do the trick. The springs are the springs that were on the front of the car back in the 30s so it a small weak spring. Its only 1-3/4" wide and very thin. I'm hoping the ladder bars do the trick but I have a good bit of mods to do to get them on. I have to cut the rear loose from its purches, add some Spring floaters, design and fab the front brackets and install a sway bar to keep the rear in place. I guess I better get to work with summer just around the corner.
Those cheaters really look good on there, and once you get get those ladder bars on...well you'll be snapping axles and "U" joints in no time
