I am thinking about putting Rocket gasser spokes wheels on the front of my coupe. I'd like to hear any positive or negative comments on these wheels.
They are cheap Chinese knock off's of good wheels........ Save a little more and spend a little more on real American made wheels.
yep, the rockets don't even look right....the spokes are sort of squarish. ET are gorgeous www.team3wheels.com
I use a set , heard the same shit about the quality we chucked them in a lathe they had less than a 1 thousands run out on one and none on the other, i have gone 147 mph on them no issues.
Uh I just figured out that you are talking about new rockets. my comment has no bearing on what you are talking about. I thought that you were talking about the old rockets. Sorry about that.
I have the Rockets, cost wise, it was what I could afford. I'm happy with them, look good, needed very little balancing. I drove my Gasser 180 mile round trip into Brooklyn NY for the Rumblers show this past summer, and had no issues what so ever. (And those city streets are murder!)
I have a pair I bought and one wheel/tire needed no weight at all, this on a new $12,000.00 road force balance machine. I like the looks, the price, the craftsmanship! If you wanna see them on my yeller 55 go to the Rocket wheel site and look at pics of cars with Launchers on them.
The only wheel I know of that is FOR SURE American made is Real Rodders Wheels. ( I do not know where the Radirs are made.) They are very expensive, but the quality is perfect. I have a set on my '34 and they are beautifull. That said, On my Model A, I had to replace one of my old American made ETIII's with their new offshore castings and honestly, the quality was better than my old US made ones. BUT, the US made casting molds were 40+ years old... Run the Rockets if that is what you like, I have held them in my hands and the quality is pretty damn good. Or, you can spend triple the cost for the Real Rodders and have the piece of mind of knowing exactly where they are made. Good luck, -Abone.
I'm a purest to the point that it is not rational. That in mind, if you can't do a real spindle mount... or you can't afford the real wheel... do something you can afford like a nice early steel wheel. At the end of the day, your car will have more soul that way anyhow. But often times it is best to do the opposite of what I say. You could drive yourself into my madness if you followed along too closely.
