Where in the heck did you find this photo! I have never seen this photo of the Buntline Special before. This was at the 1959 Nationals at Detroit Dragway. The Buntline Special set top speed for the A/MR class. This photo is so cool!!!!!!!!:D

Sure looks like it, but did it ever run a Hemi? I thought it was a SBC powered car.

"The Rice Bowl was featured in the June '65 issue of Cars magazine. And that was pretty much the end of that M&V Altered. As soon as they got home from the Nats, Paul-of course-wanted to go faster. The car wasn't really built as a racer in the first place, so Ernie sold it to someone who put a Chrysler Hemi in it and then replaced the steel body with 'glass (we found one image of the car in that configuration racing at Pomona in the mid-'60s but could not secure permission to print it). Ernie set about building a whole new car for A/Altered with a tricker chassis and 'glass Bantam "

This picture is from the NHRA nationals at Indy ... Not sure of the year. Maybe the first year that they combined roadsters and coupes into a general comp division.

Leroy and Mikio were partners in Performance Products/Performance Machine. They went back many years. If you know Mikio he likes to stir the pot just a little. Mikio wondered why Leroy used such big tires and I said Maybe he needed weight on the front end. Mikio also pointed out Leroys number on the car, #7. I thought it was for going in the 7's, Mikio said it was for the seven partners, of course he was snickering. He also pointed out Al Hawkins in the back ground as one of Leroys partners. Yesterday conversation was about the March meet, to go or not to go.. More than likely we will attend. I am glad I can be a conduit for Mikio who doesn't do the internet.

  14. maybe it wasn't competitive in C/Gas anymore, but was in D/A.That happened alot in the late 60's. [class jumping I mean]

Looking again at the pic I see "Glass Chariot"
Think that was the name on Lahaies car.
    And Olds power.
I used to bomb around in a 1963 Olds wagon like that.
    A great boat.

    Maybe interior was gutted?
Did gas have to have somewhat of an interior?
Can't remember, will have to dig through my stash of old rule books.

When I ran modified, somtimes I would pull front bumper to run F/G if it was softer.

Thanks Bucksnort. I don't know if the car still exists; we are going to start digging this spring and try to find out.

Here's one more from Cordova, IL.

Anyone know this car? Hard to tell if it is a 394 Olds or a Pontiac.

Don't know if he is driving in this picture, but Mike Snively started out with the Heidelberg guys (yes, there was no Heidelberg Speed Shop, the guys who ran the car named it after Heidelberg, Germany, where they had been stationed in the Army (...and, speaking of forgetting, I forgot the owners names!!)

This is the Bannister Bros dragster, 1957. 296 inch blown flattie. Was the second supercharged dragster in New England. Best time of 10.00 at 132 mph, in 1958! This car still exists, was restored by Paul Aldrich.
