Welding Without Gloves?

gloves? these guys do it with no shoes (or pants for that matter )

true metal working masters. they make things from dirt. i have been following a guy who posts them on another forum for years. amazing metal work.
they even make their own acetylene!





me? if its something quick- nothing special. if im going to be burning for a while, ill put on my leathers.

but the hot ball of MIG fire in your ear/toes/fingers/ armpit/pants SUCKS

 

Safety first. If you make it a cultural thing it is not so hard to be safe. When it becomes second nature, then you have developed a "culture". Correct glasses, goggles, gloves etc.

 

I don't do a lot of welding, but usually tack and fit without gloves. It never occurred to me that it was dangerous, other than the imminent danger of being burned. I'm smarter then that, I really am! I love these threads that make me go "What the hell was I thinking? "

 

Yea its like screaming to the world I'm an idiot. As a welder this is the most assinine thing to even question. They didn't create safety gear so you could brag to everybody on the internet about how your too tough to use it. Put it on, be proud you use it and get back to work.BD

 

was in the shop tacking in panels today--considered going gloveless because I left MY gloves at home and was at someone else's house. thought better of it and muddled my way through with the loaners--

I wear my welding goves when I use the cell phone & warm up lunch in the microwave!

Yea, you can get them at any welding store. I have a pair of Tillman gloves that I prefer but what ever fits tight and allows you to feed even the smallest rod smoothly. Good luck.BD

Uncle daddy she is really old and it happens. Nothing you can do about it. I am sorry to see her go but on the other hand it is selfish for me to want her to stay. The oncologist said that it will not significantly shorten her life, whatever that means.

I was going to say they do make gloves especially for TIG welding. I worked a couple fo years as a close tolerance welder and owned a pair that were pretty good, except the shop I worked in was a sweat shop and they didn't allow time to properly fit up certain parts. You had to use feel to get things flush.

OK someone is going to say, well you should have told them you needed the extra time. No I needed the money. That's just the way it was.

I don't do a lot of TIG welding any more, I would probably own a pair of special TIG gloves. But I don't do a lot of TIG welding and I don't own a pair of special gloves.

Like I said earlier I cannot not with good conscience suggest that someone of the younger or just starting out crowd weld without gloves. I on the other hand intend to live the way that I do until it is time for me to go to wherever it is that I go for the next go around.

To each and everyone of you do what it is that you deam fit. If it turns out to be a mistake it is your own mistake. Live or die with it.
