Thanks George, I would rock that thing again right now as well. I could recite every detail about it, wonder if it is still around somewhere.

My dad had a 2nd gen. Firebird with a 350 and 4 speed along with our '68 LTD Country Squire. Then the gas crunch came and so did a Pinto wagon, but at least my dad got a Chevy pickup (250 and a 3 on the tree). My older sister had a green (weren't they all?) '72 Vega coupe with the melting motor. My grand-dad's '62 Caddy CDV was in the garage and never drove again, I was really upset when that got towed away and I was not even near driving age.

If only I had all of the Schwinn and Columbia bicycles that I grabbed out of people's trash or at yard sales I'd have a small fortune. I had this one bike that had tailfins, a "gas tank", gigantic headlight, mirrors, white wall tires, and a book rack, it was mint '50s bike. One of my brothers decided to demo it for fun because it was just an old POS. Even as a kid I knew what was up with the old stuff. I used to collect old Hi Fi sets, too.

It was all garbage back in the 70's.

Had me a '55 Ford Victoria in high school, did me a lot of cruising in SoCal.I quit going to the drag races in '70 after graduation cuz of all the bracket racing, and dial-ins. Drove me crazy! Heads Up racing as God intended!
Then kinda got away from hot rods, and had VWs,'57 Oval,'61,'62,'65, and a '59 Karmann Ghia.
Bought a new '72 Datsun 510, it was a bit hot-rodded, Edelbrock manifold, tube headers, Ansen style slot mags, wide T/A s, and glass pack that exited out the side, with pin striping, Whoo Hoo!
Got back into it in the late '70s, when I put a Ford 302, Holley 4 barrel, 3 speed stick, and 9 inch diff. in a '69 Datsun pick up. I set the engine way back, had to fab. a whole new firewall. Did all the work myself. That thing hauled ass, but wouldn't stop for a damn! Found out right after I sold it, that 240Z disc brakes would have bolted right in! I sold it to my step-dad who drove it up to Alaska and he ran it there for several years on those rough gravel roads. Was never into disco, Hard Rock and Southern Rock for me! Also always wore Levis, T-shirts, and Pendeltons. Psychedelics, weed, and booze, and chasin' tail rounded out most of my time.
    Yeah, those were Great Daze!...

I was far too young to drive in the seventies but I did hit the streets on two wheels.

Despite not having a car, I did have a hot rod t-shirt and a very 1970's haircut courtesy of my mother.

17 pages and I don't believe I've read CB radios, barefoot gas pedals, prism stickers, Sun tachs with or w/o garter, wink mirrors, or tassles on rearview mirror.

They say if you remember the 70s you weren't there. Unless you were a kid like me riding shotgun.

i remember being about 11 years old and some older guy had a 63 chevy and he hung around the older guys in my neigborhood. My dad told me to find him and tell him that he had a pair of headers that would fit his car. I remember walking up to a group of older guys and saying to the guy with the car, my dad said he has a set of headers for your car, real proud like, and the guy goes" tell your old man he is full of shit, I can't fine a set of headers anywhere to fit my car. Sure enough he goes to my house and dad gets the headers out and they fit... he ended up trading another set to dad for those.
The older guys would look at me a little different after that...

Class of '71 here. In the summer of '70 I put shackles on my '55 Chevy. About the third time I lit the tires up the distributer cap hit the firewall and broke it and the rotar. That happened enough, that I carried spares and could replace them under a street light. Older exracer told me that the shackles let the springs wrap up which broke the motor mounts and let the distributer kiss the firewall. So off came the shackles. A few years later I put the rear springs on top of the housing and put C lifts and spring stools in the front. Looked cool, but drove a bit scary. Set the car back down in '75 and then got a '32 Ford 3 window in '76. In the early '70's it wasn't a big deal to run 11:1 or 12:1 engines on the street or drive two or three hundred miles to a rod run. Just wasn't that many car events back.

What a blast from the past!!! I was ten years old in '75. These were the cars that I drooled over and made me the fine upstanding hot rodder that I am today.
