    OK so they are 1554132 heads = 1955 270

But the intakes measure out to 1.76 so I guess someone along the line upgraded the intakes to a bigger valve.

 mmmmm... I wonder what else has been done to the engine. I pulled these off a 55 2 Door hard top my dad bought for a custom project (he has a long line of projects, I think this one falls in line around #5) Anyway now I'll have to pull the rest of the engine down and see.

1.75 is what is listed for a 1955 270 intake valve. Are you sure your others arent 241 heads? They would have 1.65 intakes.

My refs say 1.75/1.41 for all 241/270 car heads

Direct from the Red Ram Service manual. Also in the Tex Smith hemi book. 1.65" for 241 heads.

OK I was under the assumption that 241 and 270 were the same. I didn't check the casting numbers of the other 2 sets of heads I took apart but the 1554132 heads I took apart last had 1.75 intake valves and they were bigger than the intake valves of the other heads. So I would say Tom is on the money.

How can I get in touch with Donnie Johansen?
I tried Herbert Cams, but they said he left 4-5 years ago.
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

Good question...I recently heard that Contreras has quit building 'special' rollers for engines like these. Probably not enough margin...:(

Okay that kind of peaks my interest. I don't mean to bring more questions to the table, but I have a feeling you all might be able to answer them. So I have a '56 dodge poly- 270, and looking through the thread it Should be a short snout cam right? Does that mean I could buy an aftermarket 318 cam or like a comp cam of some sort and have it milled down to fit, or would something like that would not work. I have no idea (due to lack of experience and knowledge) if the 318 cams have short snouts and if it could be adaptable. Or if anyone knew any other cams that would work or anyone who would sell performance cams for it.

NO!! The 318s, both LA & A, are completely different engines and the A & LA don't even interchange.. The low deck Dodge 241/259/270 weather it is a hemi or a Poly, is a separate line & only uses low deck cams. The hemi & Polys supposedly have different grinds also, even if they were both 270s. They would be long snout from the OEM. Don't know for sure but it's possible that some after market short snout cams could exist

To run a Chevy water pump I just cut off the threaded end drilled the end and tapped it for a bolt and used stock timing and a electric fuel pump with a modified front cover.

1956 was the change over year from the early, and massive, cam gear assembly to what might be called 'normal.
'Normal' meaning that you can use A-LA timing chain set.

Hmmm, the '56 270 is the only low deck block with mounting ears, so I guess they could have made a short snout cam for those.

Right George, and also the cause of a shortage of 'short' cams as most folks with other 241-270 engines still want them.
The long cam can be shortened and with some 'magic' can use the later eccentric but we would still be required to use the old Link-belt chain set. Not all that bad though, they last forever and don't stretch until a lot of miles have passed.
