I was working on the paint on my bike the other day. I had some very minor inperfections that only I new about ,but it was bugging me. So of course it had to be fixxed. I sanded I sanded a little ,things were looking pretty good and I thout I should stop rite now or I will be sorry. So naturaly I went back to sand out that last tiny air bubble and now I have a dime sized primer spot showing. Has this kind of thing ever happend to you?

Yep, often. A friend once told me "Perfect is the enemy of good" I seem to have never accepted that advise.

  4. We call that "One more flight" at my place. Dad and I used to fly radio control airplanes and sometimes mom would come to the flying field with us. When she had all the fun she could take, she would say she was ready to go. Dad would say, "One more flight." Invariably, we would hurry, forget to check something, etc. and would end up picking up balsa tooth picks after the crash....

So, to answer your question, yes....do it all the time. Fortunately, however, there is a warning signal....dad or I say "One more flight" and we know we should really quit for the day. Doesn't always happen though.... ;)

I know the feeling all to well. To most it looks perfectly fine but you think I can just fix this minor imperfection and before you know it it's worse and now noticeable to everyone. I've got a habit of doing that I'm trying to let minor stuff slide but for my own stuff it'll bother me till I fix it. Good luck!

That's someone "talking to you". If you sharpen your mind to pay attention to whomever is
    "talking"..life will be easy.

Yup, saying at work. A good plan implimented now is always better than a perfect plan that never gets off the ground.

sometimes getting it done is better than it being always on the way to perfection.

You are always your worse critic. If you don't fix it you'll always worry about it.

Never shave with a hangover if you have a mustache;)

I think many of us get caught up in the sand it a bit more to make it perfect thing and end up redoing it.

But that beats the hell out of being in a big assed rush to get it done and doing sloppy work just to get it done. If we cut corners, no matter how good others thing our car or truck looks we know where those shortcuts were made.

  17. Ran in to that problem at work the other day when replacing a portion of the radiator core support in an off topic AMC. The welder we have is garbage, and wouldn't go low enough to do the job the way I wanted. I pressed my luck on the high heat setting one too many times, and turned a 30 minute job in to an hour and a halfs worth of complaining and cursing myself.... I guess that's how we learn.

Yes I have, and I absolutely will not elaborate.

  19. I'm a painter at a body shop and I can't tell you how many times I've done stuff like that. You just have to accept that if you want something perfect you might have to redo it.

did the same thing on the roof of a nova once. best paint job of my life--had to force the issue in one little spot--subsequently had to repaint the roof.

  21. I've had numerous times I've wanted to stop and ask about a gas pump or old car I see. Next thing I know....it's gone! Shoulda stopped and asked.

I was putting some heads on a truck one day. Pulled out my trusty Snap-on torque wrench. Started torquing the head first pass was supposed to be 52ftlbs. I kept tightening and my wrench wouldnt click and in my head I knew I was well past 52 ftlbs but I thought no maybe not and kept torquing ended up snapping the head bolt I didn't feel to good after that one. Ruined a head bolt and a head gasket

It's shiny but it would be better if I just shoot one more coat of clear on it...... Run!

  27. "Did you ever think ,I should stop rite now or I will be sorry. Then you dont stop",....just that one time at that stop sign! You dont make that mistake twice.

Sometimes to achieve a standard you are happy with, you will have to do it more than once. No one else may notice the flaw, however you will know and that can be enough to push it too far. I have sanded and repainted the black backing plate on my Cadi dash clock 4 times,..why? Because my spraying is not perfect (!) and I knew there was a flaw. Just had to get rif of it and now it looks perfect and everytime I look at it I will be happy that I did my best not reminded of my flaws.

Guilty here. On the day I wrecked my T, I had just parked it after a day of cruising around town. So, I cleaned her up. Got her all spic and span, then I thought to myself.... "A little spin around the area, just before supper, won't make me late getting home." But I had just cleaned it and my inner self said, "Naw. Just go home." Did listen? Nooooooo. I take off and about 5 miles later, got hit by a cop car!

Bottom line, that inner voice is a low talkin' SOB!
