Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bustedknucklelarry, Feb 23, 2012.

  1. ok so while driving my bel air i noticed that when it is still not entirely warmed up the throttle seems to stick. it goes away when it is warmed up (driving for longer than 15 min). any idea as to what i could do to make this go away? keep in mind, i cleaned all of the throttle rods all the way up to the carb.

Make sure the throttle rod isn't binding in the carb. If the engine rocks it can bind if you don't have the correct rubber grommet and nylon bushing. Loose mounts will make it worst.

My 54 Chevy car used to do that a lot. Lube all of the linkages and make sure the throttle return spring isn't binding on anything.

Be a bit more descriptive...does it act like the idle speed is too high? If so, that's how it's supposed to work, the choke is still closed, and the fast idle cam is doing it's job.

Look at it, see what's going on.

There's no such thing as a dumb question, (well maybe:rolleyes:)...at least that's what all the educators use to teach. Can't answer your question, but others can. Keep asking! That's part of this board's mission.

I had a similar problem with an o/t car. It turned out to be a warped and sticking part in the carb. Once hot it expanded enough to allow free operation. Drove me nuts until I changed the carb. Just a thought, good luck you will figure it out.

Maybe someone could expand on the post above about lubrication of the linkage. I was always under the impression this was a no no. The theory I was given that the lubricant attracted dirt and ended up performing the opposite of what you wanted the lubrication to do.
