Has anyone else had lots of issues with the 32 bobbed frame? The vendors I talked to use some of the non boxed rails and have no issues but they wont order a boxed set.

I have used about a dozen or more sets of JW boxed rails, highboy and ff with no major problems. I have them under my original 3 window and original sedan delivery. Body holes are close as are the fender holes. The only issue was a slight problem where the front fenders mount to the side of the rails, but I have had that problem with ASC rails also. Most of the repro fronts need a little massaging. I do think the rear horns may be down a tic but so are lots of stockers. We boxed 100s of pairs of ASC rails but I went to JW when my railboxer moved away and I'm too old to train someone else. I did have JW make a few corrections after the first pair.

thats because they want to make the markup on their labor, not the smaller markup on purchased parts.

How can you not get along with Bob Frank?

Their non-boxed rails are the best.....never used the "bobbed frame", so I don't know about them.

I stopped over at Rods to see if I could help with some of the problems he was having with the new chassis. I checked it out and the chassis looked like sh*t. He had started the mock it up and...
The head lights were pointing up to the sky.
    The bobbed looked to much.
The pan hard mount was all wrong.
The cross member needed to be move.
The master cylinder & clutch assembly don't fit between the cross member & frame.
Body doesn't sit straight on the frame.
The wheel base to body looked wrong too.
Drivers frame rail is leaning in at the bottom, looks really bad!
Sorry, but I could't help him on this, I'd start over, I know he'll find more troubles once he gets farther on the build.
Call it what you want, a lemon is a lemon.
Couldn't of happened to a nicer guy!
These guys should take it back or make it right!
This is the second '32 frame he had ordered, the first (from someone else) one took over a year to show up, he should out kept that one, it looked better then this sh*t.

I plan to buy a pair of their unboxed rails, just need to find out the best rate on shipping, or meet pick up.

It is so depressing when you pay top dollar for something salvaged off the (what looks like) seconds pile. My drivers side frame rail starts skinny goes wide (of course) then like a canoe it goes back in at least 1/2 inch. Passenger side stays streight so I cant line the car even back there without everything getting off.
Then I went to put in their master brake assembly / clutch and the tubular x members were never designed to fit. Needless to say I never heard back from those guys. They have too many eggs in one basket to give a crap about one guy.
Also all the Pete and Jakes they rememberd to ship with the frame came in open boxes with most of the parts gone like they were selling this stuff at a swap meet.....

Guys, Trust Pete & Jakes. They fixed these fly by nighters screw ups with no charge and no questions asked. By from the manufacturer ONLY like Pete & Jakes. Next time I will have there frame in my shop......

I bought an x member from JW, and recently a rear brake kit and socal hairpins and dropped axle. Service was friendly, responsive, and he followed up with a couple phone calls. I was impressed.

The Socal parts were dropped shipped and I was dissapointed in how Socal packaged the $600 hairpins, wrapped only in newspaper, and packed loosely, looking almost like swapmeet parts.

Something sounds way off on your chassis..might want to post some pics.

Yes the chassis is way off... I will try to get back with pictures. I think the best way to show the different rails would be transfer the curves on to a board or cardboard for a comparrison of just how off they were made.

For a lot of builders buying them not boxed as apposed to boxed depends on how they install the crossmembers.
I've heard nothing but good feeback on the unboxed rails, still one wonders why Krylon32 can consistently get get decent boxed rails while Roadtriprod seems to have ended up with a set that had a run in with a forklift.

Thats what Im wondering if these fell off the truck or what? There are some good gouges an inch above the reveal I havent tryed to fix yet.....
I wonder if they didnt get a bunch of new guys in because they welded my Pete & Jakes headlight/shock mounts on backwards with nothing square to the front axle for shock mounting and headlights are out of adjustment aming up at the stars...... Not impressive at all......

I heard at the GNRS that So Cal may be in trouble. It was a rumor at the show. Just saying what I heard. Hope not but times are tough all over.

I bought my frame from Gary at blackboard hotrods in Northern CAL. By far the best bang for the buck.

Hey, I'm not saying they don't need a little tweaking to get then right but to date they have worked for me. I have 2 pair coming we'll see. Maybe they have changed people and my next ones will not be as good?????

  22. Yes, Google Jim Weimer Rod Garage. They are in Central Wisc. Great Shop, My model A frame is from them.

  23. I have a pair of unboxed rails, and they are great. using them under a 30 roadster body, so I wanted to pinch them at the firewall and wheelwell before I boxed them and built the cross members. I could'nt be happier with the frame. I did'nt have the money to have them build a frame for me, so I did my own, but I like welding and fabricating anyway.

  24. Forgot to mention that I'm sorry about your troubles and I would call Bob or Eric and let them know, I would think they would do something!!

This was the final e-mail sent to them, He asked me if it was inline or not, I though it was a real good letter that should be sent.

    To whom it may concern,
I am done complaining to Darrell about the frame and parts sold to build a rolling 32 chassis with no paperwork or guidance at all. If I wanted to buy expensive parts and fabricate everything from there Id have done this from scratch. Your customer service was good to begin with even though you had no idea what eric sent to me that was missed in my original order.....I wasn’t impressed I had to pay to get the headlamp brackets welded on totally wrong I thought you had a jig?. Thanks for the new set.
The crossmember is made in a way that the instuctions for P&J ladder bars will have to be altered from original design.
You sent the wrong ladder bar mounts.... none for the front when I bought the kit..

The panhard bar wasn’t even close to the right length. Had to send it in to a machine shop to cut and get it threaded. Still waiting for that bill. Sure its$75 to $100 minimum.

The Frame rails are crooked where it was pinched and are not symmetrical.

I was ready to square my body up with the frame and start frame mounts. I stood behind the car lining up Body and frame at the wheel well openings and something was off by at least 1/2 inch. I started grinding my inner sub frame from the model A to line it up better. The car was so crooked by the time the distance from side to side was equal it would have went down the road looking like it was doggie tracking.
I went around measured the body. It was 1/8 inch off. NOT 1/2.

Then realized the $2400.00 frame you sold me has a Lund boat shape (curved to straight) to one side and looks like a canoe (curved to curved) on the other going back in about 1/2 inch on one side and not the other. The horns arent perfect either..So I cooled off after a week and talked to other people in the industry before wrighting this......

Then I tried putting that clutch/brake assembly in my frame. Yep you were right. You never put one on because it wont fit between the tube cross members. It is 1/2 inch too close together to fit the master cyl in period.

Now I have to haul it hours away to get the headlamp shock mounts removed and installed, bring the drivers side frame rail out by the rear wheel, clean up the tube I had to remove to get clearance for ladder bars because of your x member and get it spread to make the clutch master cyl fit.

I have a handful of guys that say I should demand my money back, other builders/manufacturers that say get it fixed send you the bill even though they havent any issues with the unboxed rails they buy from you and use.

The reason I went with you was because you had no negative feedback on all the web forums I currently use. I don’t want to do that with out giving you an option before you start losing customers

I think this could save us a big headache by refunding me half what I paid for the frame. That should cover my costs to fix everything that is wrong doesn’t fit or had to fix.
I wont answer your calls. You can reply back to me by mail for I have nothing further to say.

Please destroy my credit card info you keep on hand. We are done. Im very dissappointed, I feel I have bought these parts from a swap meet and frame off the seconds pile but paid full price...................

I wish every frame was made to the walcott specs. They are the only company out there that will give you a blueprint of what the 32 frame should spec out at.
I ended up with 2 frames the LAST REFUGE FRAME took a year of excusess to find its way to my door step but it wasnt a bad frame for the money. It al least was jigged up and welded straight. It was also made from a lighter gauge steel.

Starting to get a real bad taste for Racing vendors too like summit. They sold me a set of headders that say they fit the application for my 72 elcamino but blame me cause they dont fit I i should have checked to make sure my car shifts into neutral or drive before I satrted it. BASTARDS..... Like JW Rod gargage shit for product satisfaction.... Just want your $$$$ then east shi*t

How long did it take you to get your mounts? I've been waiting 18 months for suspension parts and a dropped front axle. The frame arrived within 6 months but still waiting. It was difficult getting a list of items he still needed to ship. Glad you got your parts. Bob

Yep Glad Norb finally came through. If you can deal with the BS and Lie after lie after lie that he is shipping it out tomorrow every week upon week they are a good deal for the money. The frame and everything was paid for Oct 8 th 2010. I recived the frame one day short of a year and some money for parts 3 months ago and the motor mount last month. He does want to fill the orders but has issues in a timely fashon.
Guys, IT IS A GOOD DEAL. Better than the lop sided pile of SH*T JW ROD GARAGE SENT ME.
