This was about 1 1/2 miles north of Flatrock ,Mi. south of where RT. 24 (telegragh) branchs off Rt 25

 

That's really the Ford Model T factory in Highland Park. It IS on Woodward. Lincolns were built out on the West side in their own plant at Livernois & Warren. In 1951 the Highland Park plant was probably building tractors and components. One of the stationary engines from that powerplant is in the Henry Ford (Museum.)

 

Info on the photo is only partially correct. It IS the B&O-It's the Cincinnatian near Amblersburg, WV in 1948. The train was an extra service "streamliner" which ran between Washington and Cincinatti.

The Chicago Northwestern was a completely different railroad operating in (as the name implies) the area North and west of Chicago.

Nothing, on this except that a car called the "Disbrow Special" was advertised in classifieds between 1918 and 1919 at 1700 Broadway. It was described as a speedster or a "race car". Harris was the seller. Phone circle-1582. It was advertised in the New York Evening Telegram and the New York Times many times during this period.

Going through a bunch of stuff cleaning up at my in-laws after the death of my wife's Mom. Pretty sad, but we found this awesome picture..

My wife's Grandfather and his brother up on their 1912 Triumph 3-1/2's.

The cool thing is our Son rides a modern Speed Triple, so the family now has 100 yrs. on Trumpets!

I've found several definitions or captions with some of the old pics I found to be erroneous, inaccurate or just plain wrong. I think many of the stories told are by persons who don't know the actual facts associated with the pictures and are guessing on them. That's one of the good things about this thread, some of the fictions are being uncovered, and replaced with fact.

Ron, you have the right spirit, man. I think we've all encountered that type of info. I just wish that if people don't KNOW, they'd state plainly that they're guessing. As is, there's the probable danger that most readers will accept WAGS as facts and, worse, continue to perpetuate false info. What's COOL about this thread is guys/gals can ASK for knowledgeable input, usually with getting flamed (least not usually on this thread. LOL). Seems that VERY rarely has such an approach failed to piece together most all the facts about any given photo! Awesome. (E.g., I recently posted a puzzling photo of a cave-like cliff; within two or three posts, guys who knew bits of info had it tracked down to a spot right on the Arizona/New Mexico line!)

Anyway, I appreciated Dale filling us in on the train pic, as Chicago is a long way from West Virginia. That terrain surely looks a lot more like WV than northwestern Illinois, too. Dale, can you help me with a couple of details, though? Was "Cincinnatian" the name of the streamliner engine? And when you say "extra service," I took that to mean that it ran as needed, rather than on a regular schedule. Am I close? Ron posting the pic also dispelled a vague idea I'd had that most all streamliners were diesel-powered. The Cincinnatian appears to be belching a cloud of coal smoke here. That was the name of the train, not the locomotive. There were many streamliners that were steam powered, the 20th Century Limited for example, and most eventually switched to diesel power. There were quite a few interesting streamlined steam locomotives.
