I just found a '32 5W built in '55 by a young guy named Chuck Lee, a high school shop teacher from Easton, Ca. He died in a car accident in '57 at 24 years old. His parents then sealed it up in a garage until about 1978. It then appears to have gone through 2 or 3 owners in Ca. before being brought back east in the late '90's, or early '00's. I found photos of it in two of Don Montgomery's books running at the Russetta Timing ***oc. in 1948 while still running a flathead. Mr. Lee built it in '54/'55 with a brand new Olds 324", 4 pot Horne intake, solid lifter cam, exh. cutouts, and a Hydramatic attached to an open driveshaft early Ford rear. The interior was done by "Cookies" in Fresno, and the doors are operated by solenoids on the frame below the cowl. There is absolutely no rust, or accident damage, and aside from new wiring, appears to be exactly as built. I'm trying to piece together the ownership history, and hope to meet a former owner at Deuce Week on Friday. I'll keep you posted.
You found or bought? Sounds very cool, it seems you have a good start on its history...pics please...and hurry
Oh man that thing is amazingly cool! It is quite an honor when one finds real history like that! Damn!
I can't believe what great shape that thing is in! Hey can you tell me what kind of Master Cylinder that is on the fire wall? Is it a four bolt? Does anybody know?
That is the most *****in 32 coupe ever. The white fender welting is just too cool along with the Chromed MC, Old engine with Horne 4x2 and the upholstery everywhere!!!!! So rad!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man.....
WOW! What a score! I'd probably deep six the aoogah horn from the firewall, the dice shifter knob and definately "retro" out the modern day wiring on the firewall to vintage cloth covered wires. Then it would look like it drove right off the pages of a late 50's Rod & Custom magazine.
Awesome example of an early hot rod. Unbelievable that it survived in it's original form. Great score.
Wow. What a score! For the time (hell, for ANY time) that this was/is/will always be really *****'n!!
Holy **** thats a nice score man mine has been out done now.. Wait til Frank sees this omg another with a OLDS !! Alfin when and where can we see it
It's being picked up today, and brought my friend Randy's shop for a safety check. I'm off to Deuce Week Thurs., so it probably won't be in Ma. till mid-March. I'll keep you posted, and you're welcome to come see it when it gets here. With the Hydramatic, and seat configuration, it has less room than my chopped coupe, but i can't change anything.
Seriously though, when you've got it home (and after you've driven it, and removed the grin from your face) post some more photos for us please?
YES. Congratulations on the find. Good to know someone that appreciates its history is its next caretaker.
Hot damn. That's one sweet find! Congratulations! By the way, that Horne intake is icing on the cake.
