Projects 1960 f100 short bed custom cab w/big window

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56 ford custom, May 23, 2011.

  1. Cooler needs pressure so water is pushed and circulated...thats where the water pump comes in.

  2. Well finally got almost all the sludge off of the bellhousing. I will have to post some pics. Is there some type of paint or clear to use on the bell and tranny?

  3. Pickup up a few parts from a fellow hamber.

The correct hood spears for a 60 :

Don't know for sure about the mounting, but those are 59 spears. The center emblem looks right for a 60; 59s had FORD block letters in a big window up front.

  8. I ended up buying a pair of old chromed ones off of ebay. SO it should look pretty cool.

  9. Im pretty sure my hood is is stock from 60 im just not sure or understand why it has 59 badges.

  10. Well all the readin..posting and research along with some convincing from others I think im going to ditch the factory transmission cooler and go with an after market inline air cooled cooler. Im not sure which one to get and not sure where to get it. Also what all will I need? Where to mount it? If anyone here has done it on one of these trucks please help me out. Thanks

  11. I have always had good luck with a plate type cooler like the B&M models. I always mount them in front of the radiator where it has access to clean air.

  12. I dont know...It just all these old timers are telling me to leave the original on. "id it wored before why wont it now" I mean new is better I guess but I mean im not going to be hauling anything or long haul drives either not am I going to be towing. Im just going to be using the truck to drive around town and to drive to work here and there that is only about 3-5 miles away.

  13. Im still set on using the stock set up for now just so I can get the truck going and out of the garage. I know there is atleast a couple guys here with the same setup or somebody with a manual or diagram on how this is all set up. Please post some pics. Thanks

  14. Don't worry about the emblems right now. Just get it running. :)

  15. Haha I know....I had these on hold from a guy I promised I would buy

  16. Well still no luck on how this set up is hooked up. Somebody here must have the same set up or even a manual with some pictures. I meed the motor and trans put back into the truxk asap. I really dont want.to use a newer set up. Would rather use what I have.

  17. Well I got the cooler all figured out. I alsoshould be putting the balancer on the motor today and hopefully bolting the tans upaswell.

  18. Well a little more progress here on the truck. I have painted the front clip and rear clip of the frame with por 15 and came out really good. I also have the motor pretty much done, just trying to figure out if I should rebuild the oil pump or buy a new one. It came off a good running motor and isnt all sloppy or anything. Would it be good to just put a new mounting gasket and out it back on? Also looking for a distributor too.

  19. if you're not rebuilding the engine then re-use the pump.

  20. Thats what I figured. Thanks a bunch.

  21. Ok getting ready to bolt trans to motor and drop them in the truck. Also I am planning to mount the bed aswell. All of this should all take place this week and button the rest up by the weekend. I do have a few questions too.

    1) Does anyone make a firewall to headlight wire harness for a 1960 f100? Also the harness from cab to tail lights (oem)

2)I am trying to get the trans as clean as possible wo I can bolt it to the bellhousing then bolt to the motor. Im having a hell of a time cleaning it. Also I dont want to get anything in the speedo hole or on the out put shaft.

    3) I am planning to mount the bed so what should I use to paint the underside of the bed floor? I have a little section done of rubberized undercoating but wanted to see what the best thing is to use also not too hard on the wallet either.

  22. Anyone know the answer to the questions? I was hoping sonbody has done a few of things things.

  23. Try Sacramento Vintage Ford for the harnesses, I know they have some, not sure if that exact one however. The wiring to the rear taillights is pretty easy, you can replace that with a good set of crimpers or soldering gun.

  24. Thanks I will try that

  25. Well still trying to figure these few things out.

  26. Well I have the motor just about ready to go iin. Im just needing to clean the rest of trans and install converter then put trans on.

  27. it looks pretty clean. I dont know if you checked out vintage ford or not, but I was on their website yesterday and it looked like they had your wiring for about $40.
