Just got word of this, I've been planning to go to the street legals this Saturday and now can't.

Just a heads up to everyone out there that was planning to go as well.

I can't believe this, just a couple of weeks ago Irwindale and now Fontana.

What's next Famoso? Barona? That's all we have left in So. Cal, "The Birthplace of Hot Rodding".

I wonder what will happen to the Antique Nationals??

  2. Humm Fontana had one race I know of moved to Famosa this last year. Lots of rumor's Famosa will be only track left in so cal in a few years.

Not good......These tracks were both great for the local guys, and helped keep the ricers off the streets. My pal that is just finishing an OT Ford specifically to run Irwindale & Fontana is now gonna be double pissed.

Can some of you guys get together, find some financial backing, and buy the place. List it as a club, and just hold grudge matches there. Probably be hard to get AHRA or NHRA sanctioning but still, a place to legally run is a place to legally run...

A Superior Court Judge shut it down - for now that is it. Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA closed over noise concerns of neighbors. Amazing how NHRA track at Pomona stays open. Gee, wonder where the non-sanctioned drag races will be held?

That has happened all over the place. The track doesn't buy up the land around the track and developers buy it and build housing tracts which end up with people who whine about the once or twice a week noise.

Pacific Races out of Kent wa has had to deal with that for the past several years since developers built houses right up to the fence.
When that track opened it was on the end of a narrow road in the middle of forest and the only house was a half mile down that road and had at three race cars sitting in front of it in the 60's.

  11. The good news is that there is a guy in Shelton, Washington that is building a multi-purpose race track (Including a drag strip) and is trying to buy up a lot of acreage that surrounds the track so he doesn't run into problems with any 'neighbors'. Here's a couple of links:

    http://sheltonracetrack.com/

    http://www.ridgemotorsportspark.com/masterplan/

    http://shelton.komonews.com/news/business/687143-new-race-track-taking-shape-mason-county

The owner engaged the local community and hired local tradesman to get the track built. They are hoping to have the drag strip ready by the summer of 2012. Hopefully this will work out for everyone.

I fucking love it. Stupid cocksuckers move next to a TRACK and then complain about the noise.

Same thing happened with Bridgehampton, idiots moved right next to a track and then whined and cried.

At times I truly hate humanity.

Yup, people don't know what fun is anymore and want "quiet" and would just rather sit on facebook all day. It'd be heaven for me to live next to a dragstrip, hearing all those badass motors screaming down the strip!!

The pictures you posted are of the Fontana parking lot dragstrip that opened back in September of 2001 (Two days before 9/11, I remember very well). I don't remember when they built the dragstrip that goes in the opposite direction now.

They leave us no choice. Start finding good, empty, industrial streets late at night, bring the VHT.

I told you guys it was going to happen, the good thing aboat Barona is that it is a soverign Indian Nation, some people in a suburb of ramona, San diego Estates, try to shut it down, but no way jose, the track is on indian land, the reason they let speculatores build on industrial or rural land is because of their campain contributions for politicians. The Indians have the right idea, they only build what they need and they don't rape the land just to make a profit, why not rebuild the deralic citys instead of building on rural lands, this only clogs the freeways and roads and we have to spend more time and fuel to get to our jobs and homes

A law finally got passed a few years back in Ct. That protects the rights of existing Facilities. around 15 years ago people started moving closer to speedways and gun clubs and then complaining about the noise and getting them either restricted in use or closed down,One of the biggest cases I remember then was when the Greyhound park was still big out here some breeder bought the house next door to a sportsmans club then started with the law suits about the "noise" upset his dogs etc.etc. well that ass hat ended up getting all the clubs outdoor ranges closed!there were several counter suits by race tracks and clubs that eventually lead to a law getting past that first occupant is protected. don't want to hear noise don't move there! Don't like smelling cow shit live in the city! You can no longer move next to something that exists here and later close it down! My parents lost the rights to raise farm animals when I was a teen because a retired city guy that had more money and time than them bought the small farm next door,Every other week for about a year my folks were dealing with some bullshit by him at the town hall!that can't happen now!

  24. Great times we live in. I can still close my eyes and see my uncles 427 powered '38 chevy coupe running down that stretch.

The worlds not gonna end, i know it. were just gonna lose everything that matters.

I live in fontana and know people that live near the track..Havent heard of this before.I cant imagine this injunction will last long. Its probably going to be something like Laguna Seca where they are limited to certain days of the year and an amount and cant go over that...at least we hope so.

I have a feeling that the noise issue is B.S.

All cars running must be muffled and under 100 decibels. The wind also seems to blow in a easterly direction as well, which is away from the houses.

I'm guessing it has more to do with Penske wanting to call it quits since he isn't making as much $$$ as he used to from the tracks.... Again, just my opinion.

  28. Fontana bent over backwards to try to appease the ONE person who was stirring up the trouble. Yes, it wasn't a group of local people complaining about the noise, it was one guy. This guy lives in a shithole house nestled in an area that is now all commercial. As a matter of fact, he lives right near a large recycling yard that crushes cars. A very smelly, noisy, dirty business. Also, there's a very busy railroad track that runs between his property and the race track. This track runs 24/7, and trains are NOT quiet. For the past few years, he has complained, and the track has tried very hard to make him happy. They mandated mufflers in many series, worked hard to shut down the racing at a certain time in the evening, and even cancelled events. The oval track runs driving schools a couple of days a week, and it makes noise, but that's OK. They made him sizeable cash offers and he has refused each one. I have been told that he wants a million dollars. The last straw was the proposal to build a 1700 foot long (!) wall 10 feet high and 24" thick. Not good enough. The last time they went to court, the judge (who I was told was a complete A-hole) ruled in his favor and yesterday morning at 0900, the track was officially closed.

I have been told by a good source that Fontana is going to move the track to it's original location on the other side of the facility, adjacent to the old Kaiser Steel plant. I would suggest that they build a first-class facility that can support a major event, because I have heard rumors for years that Pomona is hanging on by a thread. They (the locals) have been trying to shut that one down for years.

I am so disgusted by the Liberal bastards who run this state and allow these things to happen. Idiots buy land and homes next to airports and racetracks because it's cheap, then they bellyache about the noise, and the tree-hugging politicians make it out like they are poor, helpless victims. It's "not their fault", and evil polluting, racetrack gets the boot......I grew up right next to Standiford Field (now Louisville International Airport) in Louisville, Kentucky, and we NEVER complained about the noise. We bought the home there, we accepted the noise. Hell, I'd rather hear the sound of a drag car in the air instead of rap music.

I can't wait to pull up stakes and blow out of this cesspool. This place would be great if it wasn't for the people.......
