My feeling about all these pieces of crap being built is that's fine, let the builder's time and energy be wasted but they should be trailered everywhere they go so we can all be entertained and they shouldn't be allowed on the road. These types of death traps only feed the anti car legislation always being proposed by the state. I can't believe the local law doesn't see these on the road and take care of them. I know at some of the shows and cruise ins I go to the local law hang out waiting for burn outs and loud exhausts, you'd think they'd be able to catch this type of crap.

 

How about this: You should have to register your welder just like you do an AK-47. Or outlaw the 110V flux MIG. Every guy with an extension cord running out to his shed is now a "chassis builder"...

 

Somebody go get the piecrust slicks and headlights. Light the rest on fire...

 

How bad is it I want to see more of the formerly 4door sedan sitting next to it? Im sure its shitty too... but just wanna see it.

My sisters boyfriend bought one of those rust rods for $13,000 from a guy in Cailifornia and had it shipped to Pa. For that price tag it didn't even have working turn signals. I could think of way better vehicles to spend that kind of cash on.

 

there was a thread on here a while back of a guy building a 30's sedan or vicki that he bought as a real hack job. car was turning into a really nice car, Anyone have that thread saved. Real scary stuff on that one when he got it. I believe he bought it for one of his kids...

 

Maybe not the worst, but here's some pics of the gas filler pipe and so-called motor mounts I took off of my '36 Ford 3-window...........

 

Hmm, never saw that pair around. the A doesn't look too bad if you took all the fence material off from it and put some proper sized tires on it.

 

I saw that thing also and it is absolutely scary that someone thinks that is acceptable!

 

Here's a '60 d100 i'm starting.

heres a small rundown...

original gas tank filler tube goes no where, gas tank hangs about 4" from the ground (lowest point on the entire truck), gas tank held by bailing wire and filler tube hung in drivers rear fenderwell with wire, Dozens of switches on the dash and half of them arent connected and the rest are installed improperly, 1 switch on the drivers door jamb, wood glovebox. speakers with no wiring. hose clamped tach. olds pressure gauge wood screwed on. no less than 150 wires hanging not connected to anything, dozens more are way too small to do the job given to them. lots of extra lights installed, trailer lights for turn signals, blue lights behind grille, amber light near top of radiator, steering column has about 3/4" movement side to side, about 100 holes drilled all over the body, and my head hurts trying to remember the rest, over half the fuses are burnt out.

amazingly, it was on the road until about 2 years ago IN THIS CONDITION. even more amazing is after a few hours of messin with it, i got it to start the first time it turned over and it runs SMOOTH. It appears as though the frame, suspension, and driveline is practically untouched. Has NO rot, very minor surface rust.

 

Some more....

Take note of the sweet double gate latchs on the drivers door (sadly, only 1 on the passenger door), screws holding the sagging headliner, and the sportbike(?) mirror.

 

Oh yeah, and theres plenty of radiator tubing used for the gas tank, irrigation stuff for the fuel line. it's strange that it has no filler on the body for how straight it really is.

 

Almost forgot about the old T-bird. Can't remember if it was a 55, 6, or 7. Anyway it was covered with patches. Hundreds of patches covering every square inch of the body absolutely amazing, every size imaginable from 1"x2", up to maybe 6x8 at the largest. They were all pop riveted on. Work was done by a genius/owner in Bessemer Alabama. He said "i'll just smooth it up with bondo, it'll look great". I had to leave it was making me dizzy.

 

Crap like this is why we wind up with restrictive and tough vehicle inspection laws. As is usually the case, a few knuckleheads can screw it up for the rest of us.

 

It looks like something Fred Flintstone put together.

 

Must have been a hell of a sale on toggle switches somewhere.

Great thread. Here is my contribution... Probably taken at a Wal-Marx parking lot near some backwoods town.

 

I bought an OT car (Thriumph TR 4) from Holland and it looked to be in a decent condition, pretty straight and sound. Ha, when I sandblasted the rockers they just flew away in one piece. I later found out the PO was working in a warf and was a fibreglass expert. He had molded the rockers in fibreglass, no tin at all, looked very good, glasswise that is....

worst hack job I've run across lately is this 37 PU i bought a while back. It sitting on an s10 pu frame in the first pic. Luckily i got the original frame with the deal and it now sits on it

 

Nevermind the arm. Imagine if your shirt/jacket/whatever gets caught in it...the idea alone scares the shit outta me.

Must have been! Looks like they saved enough money to also do some sweet custom light work. Found this while ripping all the electrical out of the truck after posting the other pictures yesteryay. It's in both original brake lights, can't wait to see what's inside the rest of the lights.

 

These are common here in Las Vegas. Saw one last year in the middle of the road where the front homemade upper a-arm on a 70's chevy broke and the tire was laying completely horizontal on the ground (with the car on top of it). Passenger rear tire was about 6" in the air. Saw one at a casino once that was raised about 6" and had 1" square tubing bubblegummed between the axles and the frame, didn't even unmount the old springs or coils.
