I wish someone had converted a battleship to a cruise liner. How much fun would it be to take a week with nightly fireing of those big guns.I had a tour of a battleship and loved it.

He's actually a PFC (E-2), PFC's didn't become E-3's and add a rocker until they revised the whole rank and pay-scale in 1958 (or '59 if I recall correctly). Buck privates had no Chevron at all.

They started painting rank on helmet-liners mid-way through WW-II although it wasn't really common until the '50s. It was 'required' for officers starting in 1942, I have both the 1941 and 1942 publications of "The Officer's Guide" the later book has the reg and guidance for helmet-rank, the earlier one doesn't. While most are hand painted, there were decals available for purchase at the PX.

Sorry for that, I'll end my novel there...

Charles Middleton's brow make-up was a bit different, less subtle.

..I would say this is Max Von Sydow from the 1980 film, for which Queen wrote and preformed the soundtrack.

"I've got 8mm movies of BB62 & BBWisconsin (84?) firing those big sized--VW weight projectiles in Korea!!--They claim fire control could hit a shit house at 23 miles away!!
Even tho our ship was a half mile from the BB's, If I held my hand to shield the flash---I could spot the BIG VW blasting thru the air!!--ON TARGET!!!

I don't know about that, but I know they requested eight digit coordinates whenever possible. That's pretty tight on a VN 1:50,000 tac map.

My father was one of the Frosen Chosen, refused to live anywhere cold the rest of his life. Died in his sun room in his house in Orlando in 99.
