FamosA is the old name for modern day Taiwan... :D Anyone hear anything about the Motorsport Park in Lompoc? There's supposed to be an eigth mile strip with the park.

  2. Petition signed- I have raced at Pomona, Fontana, and Terminal Island street legal drags.

We need street legal events at these tracks.

Somebody needs to get organized if it's not too late, or you'll have no strips left! The legislature can grandfather in the older tracks to make them immune from modern noise ordinances, and the NHRA should use some of their legal clout to assist if people get behind this.
Without everyone banding together and pounding on your representtive's office, you'll end up with nowhere to race soon!

Cajon speedway was closed several years ago, some developers bought it to build condos, it turns out they were not allowed to build because of the oil speepage from the track, now , an empty field sits there and nobody can build there.karma is a bitch! everyone lost, the greedy city lost tax revenue, the developers lost their ass, and we lost our race track, many a famous circle track driver started racing there. when it comes to greed, nobody wins.

I know the reserve Sheriff deputy on Whittram ave, he had a salveage yeard for years and has a few toys of his own I don't think he would be the guy to bitch about the strip my god the train runs past there every day all day and the circle track during a NASCAR event would drive anyone nuts, I can't see how the strip would.

Where was NHRA,AUTO CLUB and/or the BIG NHRA sponser LUCAS??* The judge in this case has to be held responsible for any unfortunate deaths that arise from this judgement because recers had to revert to street racing. If any occure the judge should be put on notice by mail. We as racers need to form a group and come up with a way to bring racing back to the track. Look up Qual Com stadium in San Diego and what they have done for street racing( http://racelegal.com/). There is strength in numbers so if we let our voice be heard, non violently, and "professionally" we can make THE difference. Another thing, everyone contact the NHRA Division 7 director,Mike Rice*( mrice@nhra.com )and let him know there is NO div. 7 summit here and what can he do to help and do we get our $200 refunded from, two weekends of $50.00 a day to race summit and now there is no series, and that there is NO local tracks to race at.. Come on together WE can make THE difference. Thanks. datzila@aol.com

I agree that the retarded, "judge" should be held responsible for any problems this causes AND shouldn't even have a job anymore.

I was actually going to go spectate at Qualcomm stadium last night but it's just TOO FAR for me, especially for just a street legal event.

Before this goes to Mike at NHRA it has to go through the President of the Auto Club of So. Cal first. I suggest you contact him as well.

Please post the e-mail adress for a petition, I'll notify the members of the T.C.C.A. and I'll contact the California Car Club Association, I am shure we can send e-mails of protest or formulate a petition , this is an ellection year and I am shure politicians will listen.

Indian land, soverign nation...Thats a great idea. Some of the tribes have casinos and get revenue from them others have nothing like that, if they could be enlightened to open a strip on there lands it would help them and us both. If you know any tribe members talk it over with them.

crap! was just checkin up on the date for the Antique drags. wotta bummer, been lookin forward to it all year. One of the best hot rod activity in the area.

30 years ago I worked at Kaiser, we called that area 'Siberia'. It was a switchyard and had lotta junk stored out there. I worked on the Kaiser RR and used to shunt freight cars out there day and night. It also has a mainline for the Santa Fe.

Yeah these idiots up here in the central valley buy houses close to a dairy and then complain about the smell. They must be related to the dumb fuck whiners that move next to a race track. Seems like ignorance and stupidity allways win in court.

NHRA has legal clout, however, there is a bunch of overpaid, limp dicks, sitting in management there, that won't do anything that might make a wave.

the other tracks are still open, officially they never close....... Pheobe Road, down off of the 5 freewy, and Nabisco-Trojan Way. Santa Fe Springs Road @ Los Nietos Road, BellRanch Road just nearby. of coarse the dennys off of the 5 freeway near Valleyview and when it gets broke up there is a "quick" run down to Santa Fe & Del Amo. Shoemaker Ave starting at the train tracks. And my favorite, Greenstone Ave in SFS, with the shutdown area kinda right in front of the fire staion. the firefighters will come out & watch when they know we will be there. i could go on and on........

  20. Or the assholes that buy a house next to the Van Nuys Airport then complain about airport noise. Now we can't have the annual Armed Forces Air Show. I hate people.

SoCal Drag Strips -- who needs ‘em?

Sure, we all know that Southern California is the cradle of civilization for drag racing. It all started here in Goleta, Saugus, San Gabriel, Santa Ana, San Fernando, Irwindale, Lions, and the list goes on. Including the virtual loss of Pomona Raceway.

Now, in the first quarter of 2012, two more SoCal drag strips bit the dust, Auto Club Dragway and Irwindale Dragstrip. While they might not be forever closed, right now there is only the eighth-mile strip at Barona Drag Strip in San Diego County where local drag racers can compete wide open. Barona is a treasure, but it is rather doubtful that a lot of Los Angeles area DOT tire racers will make the long trek down there.

But wait, there’s always street racing! Seriously, I have no idea if there is any correlation between the gradual increase in SoCal street racing and two street racing deaths that have occurred in the same period as we find both Fontana and Irwindale closed.

What is really surprising to me is that there has not been one word, not a whimper of protest or support, from the National Hot Rod Association. Actually there has been very little or no support for any local SoCal dragstrip in recent years. After all, the Big Show has basically stolen Pomona Raceway from anything but the Big Show; there is no weekly racing.

What caught my eye this week was the online Huffington Post, owned by AOL. It’s not something I read very often, and is basically a political and topical news website. Yet it ran an article with the headline “Drag Racers in LA: As Tracks Close Racers Turn to the Streets”.

Over the weekend I read on laist.com a similar article with the headline “Drag Racing in SoCal: “We’re not Going Anywhere”.

Why is it that two online, non-drag racing publications noticed our missing drag racing venues but NHRA hasn’t?

Now that I think back on it, I joked and dared two members of the NHRA elite to show up at Irwindale Dragstrip a half dozen times over the course of two years, but something always came up preventing anyone from taking my offer to show them how the rest of SoCal experiences drag racing, how the other half lives. Big Show arrogance seemed to get in the way. Guess they’re just not that interested in drag racing unless they HAVE to attend for their jobs, or to smile for the photogs for a media groundbreaking.

Heck, move outta there! Who could put up with the stupid traffic anyway. We've got a new track being finished up here in Kentucky, no stupid anti guns laws, (you can open carry with no permit, concealed with). And you know what else? Some people smoke cigarettes here, and no one gives them any shit about it....

Really sorry to hear any Race Track closing it's doors !
There was a local 1/4 mile drag track that I raced at back in the 70's called 75/80 Drag Way in Monrovia , MD. Well the rich from Baltimore and Washington decided to buy some houses that were built next to the race track . Then they all bitched about all the noise , traffic and so on until the track got closed . Well years later the owners of the track told them they were going to build more houses there and then they all threw a fit about that too . So they said have the track and now it's been reopened for a few years now as a IHRA Track I believe . Not the same as it use to be at all . It was something very special about the 75/80 Drag Way and I loved that place .
Just never know what the future will bring anymore with race tracks all over the US . Look at the stands at the NASCAR races now and you will start seeing more and more empty seats !
Times are bad and doesn't look like it's going to get any better real soon .

    Rocky,

Great post. The author (Darr) hit the nail on the head. It is like everything else nowadays... We all have sensory overload and nobody does jack sh*t about any of it.

If people can't step up for things they use, then maybe they don't deserve them.

People need to stop waiting for a savior and get off their asses.
