Thanks, Ron. I am sorry if I came off as a loose cannon. I've had someone in Kuwait, two in Afghanistan and one currently back from the Afghan war and in technically support-only service of Blackhawks.

Maybe I didn't make my statement clear - If it weren't for the current capabilities of the VA I wouldn't be doing what I am able to now which is to be alive and not be locked up someplace.
Between 1989 and 2003 I went to the VA about 3 times and was disappointed with the treatments - I went back in 2003 in shear desperation - Since then I've gotten better and so has the VA. Its the science of treating PTSD/Brain Injuries and other physical/mental problems that are behind the curve thru every genre of treatment
I would be in for a mental health social group - There are a bunch of First Responders and others who have suffered from some form of trauma that ends up as PTSD

Hi, Dick, and sorry if I misinterpreted your earlier post too broadly, bro. You make several good points, ONE being that the V.A. has, indeed, come some way from where it used to be. (I get fired up and over-generalize sometimes, so I apologize for that. My concern was/is vets and their all-round wellbeing.)

You also mention that EMTs ad the like get that ACCUMULATED stress factor that can ultimately get to them -- same damn diff: PTSD. One I knew said the thing he couldn't take was going to a scene where a kid was involved. Another EMT tried to laugh off stories about hunting for a crash victim's leg in a stream, responding to a motorcycle incident where a young girl lost her face -- stories, on and on. Hell, his stories got to me! And I wasn't the one there attending to the situation. I know I would DO it, but I don't know how many years I could follow that noble and NEEDED path of duty.

But RaceRon filled me in that there already IS a HAMB vets social forum. Please look back a few posts, and he included a link. Hopefully, it culd get going -- like this thread -- and be of benefit to guys and gals who've been in harm's way. God bless Ryan and you ALL. I'll gotta hit the hay.

    Hey Moe,
It was at a nascar event at Watkins Glen, circa 1961, here is the verbage from the website i note in the post:
I received this picture with the email below from Mark Steigerwald, curator of the museum at Watkins Glen Raceway. If anyone has additional information on this car, please email Bob Merritt at bob@simplexco.com

    Hi Bob,

I stumbled upon this photo. Apparently there was a "G" as a pace car here throughout 1961.
I wonder if this G is among the surviving cars?
Our historian informs me that a Dr. Ward, owner of several letter cars, had a role in safety at Watkins Glen. The "G" pictured is one of his cars. Apparently his cars (or at least this "G") were pressed into service as course marshall vehicles! Though I can't say for certain, this practice probably came to end when the Ford "Total Performance" push came to fruition in 1963 and Watkins Glen became a Ford track.

This photo comes from a collection in California, and it shows a 1936 Ford Sedan featuring fender-skirts, ripple-bumpers, spotlight and whitewall-tires up front. The photo seems to be taken in the 1940s in front of a garage, and the baseball-player has a shirt that reads Colton Post 155 American Legion.

  17. Novadude55, do you know, if the supersonic still exists? That's a really sharp car, a bit strange but an eyecatcher for sure!

  18. Again here's the link for the Veteran's social group:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=83

Please take a look and perhaps as Jimi says, we can keep it going to benefit others.

I have many friends, relatives & coworkers who are vets, past or present. I've heard mostly positive feedback about the VA from some of them, which is a contrast to how it used to be.

Having served both in and out of uniform since '71 with military personnel, I'm blessed not to need the VA's services.

I recently met an old friend at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor MI and was impressed with that facility. My old high school buddy went to 'nam & thru some bad s**t. He's had issues for many years. Having become very reclusive, after chatting with him for awhile (1st time we talked in nearly 40 years!) he told me the VA was very helpful and he's thankful for what they did for him.

Perhaps for any vets, check out the VA, you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find out about hem.

    Those are excellent photos, thanks.

There were no grille-bullets in '47. Only '50 and '51 Studebakers have them.
