anyone got any cool studebakers

    I know it isn't that kind of a car but I do have a second set of stainless for around the front and rear wind screens.

    Funny think for whatever reason I looked and my eye didn't catch that the hood was raised and I was going to post that you don't see too many hoodless Starlight coupes. I had to give it a second look. :D

    The car ran for a long time without a hood, it used to run a 6-71 Littlefield blower on the 289.
    The car was originally all black, until it got rear-ended.

  3. Tough enough to get a carb under the hood of one, the blower would be impossible. My hood had (has?) a big hile hacked in it from its blown gas coupe days.

    I have partially filled it but am not going to complete it until I see if I can get my carbs under there. I think I can with the engine set back, I hope.

    I have an Edmunds manifold on it, kind of an early Hi-rise. I did run Stromberg WWs, with 3/8 thick neophrene engine cushions. Went to Rochester 2-Gs and had to cut the air cleaners way down, and take out the cushions ( now solid mount) to clear, and I still touch the hood.
     
  5. If I move my engine about another 1" back from where it is setting now (mockup) it will drop in behind the center linkage. That is if I stay with the small block. I think the olds is a little longer, but they are both set up with hurst mounts so the balancer will be in the same place. I am just going to build my cove to accept either engine so I can use whichever engine suits my fancy with a minumum of mods to switch them out.

    If I decide to leave the engine as it currently sits I guess I will just scoop it. That would take away from my sleeper attitude I guess. I wish the car that inspired mine was still around so look at. From what I remember I think he ment his center link down a little for clearance. But he was running those old Corvette air cleaners and they were not real tall either.

    I like the flames on yours, they are bad luck for me so I avoid them but I do like to look at everyone else's.

    Reverse from most, the black was already there.

  7. Light over dark actually works real well if you are using a solid color. Where fellas started getting into troubel was when they started using metalics and candies.

    Your front openings look flaired, I'm going to have to venture out to the garage and give mine a good look see.

  9. Found this along highway 97 Grass Valley Oregon. I'd say it probably pretty rare, 4X4. :)

    1929 Erskine made by Studebaker. Was in storage for 45 years before we moved it to my shop. Was my stepdaughters grandfathers car. It's theirs now. Has 29,000 original miles.

    it looks like a very early 49 to me. 4x4s weren't available until 57 i believe. so, i wonder if this is an aftermarket or home-brewed conversion?

    You would do well to swap the 1/2 finders off the trailer and onto the front of your m5,

    Your truck looks odd with grain truck fenders up front.

    Always puzzles me when titles like this pop up. Like, "is there such a thing as a cool Desoto?"..same for the Studes. i agree that some are a little odd, but the majority of them is absolutley great.

    Now, this one needs no words, except maybe description and more pics. Everything is so damn right about it.

    So many cool rides on this thread other that this one anyway. Studes are totally understated, from the 30s hot rod material ones, to the slick 50s models.
    There was this neat little 60 lark on a thread here on the hamb i think last year. The car was jet black, bagged all round and lookin hella neat. Cant find pics thou.

    I wish there where more stude kustoms around.

    I think that Studes carry a stigma that is a little hard to overcome. I am not sure why but for a long time they were basically overlooked and even scoffed at.

    They were way ahead of their time by the '50s, I think too far for the average car buyer/builder. I had to chuckle a while back someone said that they didn't like mid '50s Studes because they looked too late model. Funny that it took the big three only 50 years to catch up.

    Been meaning to get the old dog up on this thread for a while now. I think it's cool, but of course it's mine. Chasing that 11 sec. e.t. Installing new 3.73's, new axles, cal-tracs, and some more jet in the carb. Can't wait to go to Temple and try it all out.

    This is "Pretty"..our 1961 Hawk, named by my then 5 year old daughter. We've had Pretty less than 2 years. I found her at a place called Pat's Used cars in Pilot Point, a little mom n' pop car shop that specialises in classics and such. I wanted a car that was mostly done, but I didn't mind putting some time and or money in her. I went to look at a 63 Galaxie, and came back 2 days later to test drive it, and noticed the Hawk on a trailer. Pat had just brought it to his shop..long story short, she drove okay., needed some mechanical work, Grace (daughter) and Teresa (better half) fell in love with it. So we brought her home.
    61 Hawk, 289, 3-spd standard w/overdrive. Engine #s match build sheet, name on brass dash plaque matches driveaway sheet. A gentleman in Waco worked her over in 2000, rebuilt the engine, painted her, did the upholstery, some trans work. We (my good buddy Mike Griffith and I) rebuilt the brake system, cleaned the tank, replaced fuel lines, shocks, some front end components. I changed the WCFB to an Edlebrock. Still needssome time and love, but here she is..

    At 6'1" I need to be about a foot shorter to drive this thing...

  29. Steve that one has a lot going on. I am not sure I could gather it all in, in one sitting. I may like to see more of that if you have it.

    This my plans for my 54 Conestoga... I traded a 59 Chevrolet truck so my wife and kids could come with me on drives.
