Event Coverage DRAG RACING, "March Meet"....PHOTOS

Here's some photos from yesterday at the "March Meet" in Famoso, Bakersfield...
This is somewhat off-topic, being that these race cars are not like what was raced during the "Jalopy Journal" era that is usually covered here, but a day at the drags beats the hell put of looking at old drag racing magazines from 45 years ago, in my opinion....so....you've been warned...

It's going to be "slow-going" as I'm editing as I'm posting, so stay tuned....

Where the heck were you standing??

 

I ran like hell for six hours, then my back conked out. I have a 60 minute warning to "get to the car within 1 hour" or there's gonna be trouble. So, I shoot fast and get where I can to try to cover an event as best as I physically can. Next to the guardrail (K-rail), run up through the staging lanes and into the pits.....then head for home and a heating pad...139 miles south.
Great fun...really...

Thanks for the great shots, Doug. I can smell the race gas. I speak for many when I say that we appreciate your efforts. Nice to see friends up there, having fun and breaking parts.

 

another HAMB hero, "Rooman"....here giving his assistance to the Brenden Murry top fuel team.........I finally got to chat with him, great guy!!!!

 

"Mousie" with the "Winged Express" was again continuing with "Wild Willie" Borsch's ashes some 21 year years after he died.



Mike Boyd is one tough, fearless guy. He pilots the "Winged Express" with the same vigor as Willie ever did. This guy must have ice water in his veins. He's a marvel to watch. I have no idea how he controls this monster, but...he does...

 

Robin Millar, Pete's daughter was holding down the "CarToons" and "DragToons" fort while mom, Orah Mae, rests after getting a some hip work...

Ol' Mazooma got himself a press pass I see, glad you did cause those photos are great. Why didn't you get some back up girl photos. Seems the "Big Boys" with the bucks are taking over the March Meet. I hope that the Antique Drags can come to Famosa and not be invaded by the big buckers.
