I still have the Roadster getting married and moving to Chicago I'm not sure an open car is for me right now.

    Good luck updating the coupe.

Yes thats the route I would of gone if I didn't get such a great deal on this stuff...
I have enough to make it work its close... Lomas is running the short shaft and Ford open drive set up... and any thing he does is right.. hahahaha Gonna talk to him... Do you have his # PM' me if you do..

The tunnle needs to get re done cause it HUGE.. the LaSalle is allot smaller so its gonna have to get done.... I just did some measuring the Stock mount on the La Salle (short tailshaft) is pretty close to the Stock Hydro witch if I went this route I wouldn't have to mess to much with the cross member...

I'll have some thinking and decisions to make once that car is all apart... STAY TUNED...

Are you offering back to me? Damit!!! hahahahaha

As much as I want it back for sentemental reasons I gotta build the A insted.. :(

  8. Makes sense, Lomas got the open drive for the quick change.
Ask Rudi he's got his #.

Just wondering, since I'm not familiar with the Lasalle, is it 3 speed also and heavy-dutier than the Fords?

If you change everything to Ford, you easily spend $1200 for all the parts, totally makes sense to stay with what you've got.

It's a 3 spd and has an even beefier main cluster shaft then a Lincoln trans. IF you ever compare the LaSalle and the Early Ford trans you can clearly see just how stout the LaSalle is and why it was chosen for drag racing duties along with the similar Buick and Packard trans'.

thats what you get for putting automatic in it. Glad to see this happening. just what live wire needs. I started building my 1st coupe with a hydro, jetaway behind a 390. different but the same. the car didnt even come close to making it on the road before I changed it to a 4 speed. automatics are lame in hotrods. Good luck Ill be watching

one carefull old lady owner yeah? :D

I will probably live to regret it, but i KNOW mine was working great in the car it came out of.....i'd much prefer a manual but if its tricky for you to turn up the right parts over there with your connections it would be almost impossible for me here in London....i gotta work with what i've got!

and i'm with you on the 700r4 / T-5 scenario...

( oh...i'm after some nice original chromed headers for my 331....any leads?;))

    cheers...Jick

As long as you have all the linkage to the carb dialed in your good.. but once you start swapping intakes and channeleing the car it gets tricky.. I'm sure theres ways to make it work great and believe me I heard every story on how to make it work and how they did it back then.... but i'm just plane fed up with messing with it and want to choose when to shift gears... not some stoopid liknage telling me when to shift hahahahahahaa

We are all looking for some nice original chrome headers.. :D good luck..

Real hot rods have sticks anyways right!

You might be able to get away with just using the lasalle the way it is, if the trans mount is in the same close area it would be a heck of alot easier than changing the crossember etc etc.

the trans you have has a fixed yoke on it so you have to have a slip yoke driveshaft wich it pretty easy since alot of trucks had that stuff.

im also kinda wondering if you can just find a yoke that fits the trans and use it as a slip yoke, i thinke only major difference is that the output shaft is a tad longer.

I also have about 10 lasalles, i believe the insides are all the same so maybe you should hang onto your side shift trans for parts for your topshift.

but if you need any parts let me know, i got a couple from Johny long ago that were taken apart so i alot of extra parts.

This hot rod build is sounding more like "Theater of Pain" than "Live Wire", Hahahaha

One last thing...make sure you tie your Dokken bandana to the shifter.

Yeah it think the mounts are pretty close.. We have some machine shops close to Luckys shop that do race car stuff so any thing can be made..

Theres a few things i'm gonna need.. I'll call you when I figure it all out..
Thanks for the advise I'm sure i'll have to pick your brain..

    Sold the side shift.
