Maybe its just a mid-west thing but in the late 70's everybody started buying 4X4's and jacking them WAY up. Guys would hook bumper to bumper and go till somebody broke something. I can't tell you how many guys came in the shop with their drive shafts in bed. And everybody went muddin', if your ride showed up covered in mud, everybody wanted to follow you back to the spot you'd been. But mostly we were out in the middle of nowhere drinking beer.....and doin other things.

Truckers were big back then. CB Radios, TV shows like Movin'On and BJ and the Bear...

Smokey and the Bandit, Duel were good flicks!

Speaking of music, ya gotta mention BLACK SABBATH! They helped un-suck the 70's from the likes of Captain and Tenille, Olivia Newton-John and ABBA

Being a 10 year old kid totally enthralled with everything KISS. Watching that movie KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, etc.....
Staying up late to watch them on Don Kirtchner's Rock Concert

    (Anybody mention Wolfman Jack yet)?

Lot's of good in the 70's.. I started the 70's jumping my Mustang bike and learning to do wheelies, finished the 70's blasting Nazareth, Springsteen, and the Beatles Abbey Rd (especially with headphines.. big headphones!) cruising in my bright white 'Vette (Chevette that is)_

1978 or 79 --I needed a new look to the old econoline--I was running flat black a long time ago, but added the color to my Cragers and all of my shiney stuff--When I bought the spray paint I had my sunglasses on--thought I bought red primer--turned out orange,

Seemed like every one of my friends had the chrome framed Roger DeCoster BMX bikes too!
Ron had the coveted Schwinn Sting Ray with the 5-speed shift.

  20. There was a Rock Concert show that came on at midnight ( I think Firday) in the mid west. When I was in SE Kansas ('75-'76) the audio of the show was also broadcast on FM radio. it was the "cool" thing to hang out and watch the show with the sound turned off and th sterio cranked. I can remember many a night leaving someones house that had a TV in the '41 with the front glass cranked open, and the little 292 screamin'. I remember one night leaving Coffeeville and the next thing I remember was watching the sun come up on the reservation in Western Kansas. The exahust still ticking.

    Vietnam Black
I had a friend that stayed in country after the fall and every year he would send me a tissue box via parcel post of Vietnam black. Used to be anything smaller than a tissue box didn't get inspected.

  22. Yeah, called "The Midnight Special" (or Express) I think ... alot of good groups , doobie bros, Grand Funk, J. Giels, and on and on .. I drank alot of Boonesfarm and Annie Greensprings whilst watching that show.

I also remember "The Last Waltz" by The Band was also showing at walkin theaters at midnight .... it was nothing to smell pot burning and glass bottles rolling down the aisle .

Rocky Horror Picture Show also showed at midnight and had a cult following.

That was on out here too.

  24. I remember in WI, guys would jack 'em up and extend the rear bumper way out, at least 3 to 4 feet away from the back of the bed. I don't know what that served, but it looked insane.

  25. That show was still going on in San Francisco into the '80s. Not a show to go to wearing a motor cycle jacket or chaps, if you catch my drift.

And no I am not going to tell you how I know, just take my word for it.

  28. Remember Don Kirshner's Rock Concert? that was great.
I thought there was "battle of the bands" episodes on his shows (no reference of that on Wiki.). There was one time Sabbath against Scorpions against...? Well, it was a no brainer, Sabbath killed.

  29. I thought you would appreciate that.

Life has been damned good to me. I could leave today knowing that I have had the most fun.

I don't think that I would like to go back to the '70s but I sure can't say that I didn't have a good time.
