Before my trip to Australia, I just considered the ute a cool oddity of sorts - nothing to be taken too seriously. While down under, however, I simply fell in love with them. As you might imagine, I saw all sorts - early Fords, late Fords, etc... And... <BR><BR>To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
I love the Aussie Utes after having spent a considerable amount of time there. Glad to see this story. Can't wait for the pics.
I've got nothing and admittedly know nothing about them. I can tell you though almost any time you can combine a bed into a car it's a good idea.....I might retract that statement after some thought but I'll throw it out there for now. Is that a stock bodied UTE with some chassis work? IS that how they look? Man, I would love to see what the possibilities would have been in the hands of Neal Emory and Clay Jensen. That one certainly is sexy already!!!
Love that Chevy in the lead shot! Years ago I lusted after a '41 Plymouth ute that a local guy had for sale. I passed 'cause it was just too rough... With some of the things I have saved since then, it would be an easy fix now. I have never seen another in the last 25 years.
Mmm.....after a little googling I could see myself in a '36 Ford UTE with a drop axle with Juicy brakes, appropriate blackwall tires with black wide fives, washington blue paint, brown leather interior and a canvas top!!!
I knew chances were real slim that I'd ever own one, so I built one from the AMT '40 Ford sedan delivery, and coupe models. It pacified my urge for now...
They've always made sense to me, like a better riding pickup, or estate car. Too bad the proposed return of the GTO Ute to the US fell by the wayside, eh? The threads posted by our friends down under are full of cool looking Utes (don't forget Slopers, too, please). Conversely, I saw two conversion cars last weekend, one a LM Caddy the other a mid-50's Ford Basket handle Victoria. No photos were taken. Those were not the Utes you are looking for. Gary
I like ute's. Not exactly a ute, but this is pretty neat. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=662908
For years I thought about turning my moredoor shoebox into a ute/ranchero. Would've been less work than tackling the POS I'm working on now. There are some nice ones in these threads... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=538604 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=339810&highlight=ute
There's a real 46 - 48 Ford ute languishing beside a gas station in Clovis. Airport rd or Commerce Way, I cant rememder. Been about 3 years ago. The guys at A&A muffler might know.
a GTO with a cargo bed. I wanted one BADLY before the federal bailout killed Pontiac. edit, the bic of the Holden based ute has been deleted as OT but it was still sweet.
They are 15 hours ahead of me in Pittsburgh, I will prime the pump: http://www.ozrodders.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41714 Hope the link works.
A buddy of mine just got this one I found over a decade ago running and driving last month - a bit street roddy for my tastes, but runs a 351W C4 Gear Vendors....
