Ive finally decided to take the plunge into buying my dream car...a 1939 Chevy coupe. But im confused on the differences on all the models they have that ive seen...Im trying to figure out the difference of each..
want a coupe..one with a backseat would be great..
i really like the body of the master deluxe coupe...its beefy and mean
im looking for a coupe and i see a few diferent ones the more i look, but dont know the difference and which one to get?
    whats the difference between the
    business coupe
    master 85
    master deluxe
    master deluxe business
    opera coupe
    opera deluxe coupe
    and any other i missed

where are some good places online to find a large variety for sale? besides craigslist and ebay

thank you so much for your help!

p.s. i really like the pic ive attached..just not sure what model it is exactly

Hey, mojodrum, welcome to the HAMB. You might want to take a minute, look at the top of the forum page where it says fill out an intro, so the cyberworld will know who you claim to be ;)

With the '39 Chevy, there is the Master 85 - base model, straight front axle on leaf springs, and the Master DeLuxe - pricier, with early IFS, 4.11 rear end. No major differences between the bodies.

The Opera coupe might have a small rear seat, as many Business coupes of that era didn't have a rear seat; more room for a salesman's sample cases.

    Hope this helps.

    Later, *****6

Opera coupe came with two small jump seats, on the sides. There were no 5 p***enger coupes from Chevy in 39.

ooops sorry..i was confused on the intro thing..i put one in here...i just put mine up.

do you know which i had attached by any chance?

so theres no difference on body between master and master deluxe?

if i find one with Mustang II front and back..then i wouldnt have to worry about the axel thing right?

opera is the only one that had seats in the back? might be cool to put a whole bench seat back there...
any difference between opera and opera deluxe?

sorry for all the questions...im so new to all this...but ive been doing a ton of research...just trying to go with the exact one im looking for ya know?

    thanks in advance again!

    wow squirrel...thats awesome! thank you

so...im thinking what i want is the opera so i can put a backseat in there...
there would be no room to do that in the other ones right?
or did can i just cut that part out and add seat to any of them?

anytime it said deluxe it was just for the different axels?

    thank you again

The Master Deluxe had independent suspension up front, and I think there were some other options. I don't remember what they are, the info package might have more details buried in it somewhere.

There isn't much room for a back seat, that's why the Opera coupe had jump seats. Not much leg room if you try to cram a normal seat back there.

Bob you "Gold Chainer" lol guys with painted cars should have to
sit back and wait awhile before jumping a guys stuff about posting .

39 Chev coupes don't have enough backseat area for much of anything
other than Grandkids .If you do need them don't worry about them .

Other than front susp the Master had a few nicer trim pieces .
Mustang !! could get you in trouble around here .

He's one I pulled out of a barn last year.
Master 85, beam axle, everything is there.
Are you looking for a finished car, or one to restore, hot rod, resto rod.

Hey Mojodrum Welcome to the HAMB - didn't mean to bust your chops earlier, but I got yelled at for responding to a first post a while back....still learning the rules around here as well.

squirrel sent you a great link as far as the different bodys and such. About the only things I don't see mentioned here yet as far as coupe difference is on the Master Deluxe models, the gas tank is under the trunk, with the filler toward the back of the p***enger rear fender, and the Master 85s have the gas tank under the car behind the front seat. This makes the deck area behind the seat taller in the master 85, making no room for jump seats, but a larger(deeper) trunk area. Most of the Master Deluxe models also came with sliding back corner windows, where the Master 85s are all fixed.

I see a fair amount of coupes pop up on Craigslist here in LA (that's where i found mine). But here's another place to check it out and get some ideas. http://www.cars-on-line.com/sr_36-39Chevy.html

Hey Brandon, what's wrong with a little shiney paint?:D

thanks pinman 39,so what im gathering is pretty much putting a back seat /getting an opera/sport w/ jumper seat is pointless unless im toting around midgets right? hahahaha
is there storage space behind the seats of the ones that dont have jumper seats?

41PICUP-im looking for one thats close to being done up already

jcmarz-thanks for those links...i found those last night actually before i signed up..very helpful..thank you

39ChevyBob-its all good..i understand...yeah..i hear what youre saying..so looks like a master deluxe might be my way to go...thanks for all that

is that the one thats pictured in the 1t pic i attached?

so between the opera, master 85,master deluxe, master business,sport,..basically theres no difference in the body style?just in gas tank, some trim, jumper seats
getting great help thanks guys so much!

Correct, no difference in body style. Here's what you get for a back area on the Master 85, with the higher deck area in the back compartment.
