    Unborn calf skin!?

There's a Model A sedan r*t r*d (with a plaque on its firewall proudly proclaiming just that) running around here with cow-hide on its roof. I suppose I should tell him that it's traditional.

No Martin, it's a "Rat Racer"!;)

My term for traditionally inspired is "Tradish", rhymes with radish. :D

I've heard these same "nobody built 'em back in the day" comments about my Vicky. And I don't care.

To me, you can't get much more traditional than making do with what you have, or have the means to aquire. These things seem to fit that. <shrug>

In 1967 I had a 32 Ford Pickup that I put a 283 chevy with powerglide in ran fenderless until the cops made me put them back on. Not chopped or shortened. Nobody liked it but me Truck cost 100 and swapped a 60 Falcon (100driver)for the 60 more door so I could get the drive line. No idea what I was doing but I did it anyway! Trad or not (so what) safe and sound yes fun yes and I would do it again because nobody wants to spend there life waiting to have the right car and be too old to enjoy it!

Oh my. It sure would. I bet unborn calf skin looks a lot like foreskin. Yuck in the not funny way. Gary

PS.. dig the circular indent in the front bumper of this abortion, it must be there so you can ease up against the hitching post in front of the saloon.

Like any Hot Rod....proportion, proportion, proportion.....It just seems that a disproportionate number of people with out a good eye for design build these trucks......that's the real problem......

when they are done right, they look pretty awesome. If you built a 32 with the same proportions as these trucks it would look like shit too.

BTW the 59A truck is awesome....

  17. I've been watching this thread and I will agree there are only a few of these that are done well, Rudi's, 59d, the red oxide truck. But when I started watching the HAMB, there were several threads on these trucks and the debate raged on then as well. As I followed a long I thought that a truck like this was valuble for me in several ways. Shop truck I could haul with, a closed cab I could use all year round, built like a hotrod, but mostly affordable. I love to have something more "traditional" but right now this is what works for me. With tradition in mind and a good safe build and very much HAMB inspired I offer....My '46 Ford.

I don't know if I'm what a lot of people would call educated or not, but I like it! Very much the look I have in mind for my 36 Dodge.

Yes. Notch's truck is a piece of art. The perfect example of neotraditional, perhaps?

I think this "neo-traditional" phrase might catch on! It fits, is descriptive, and I think the die-hard "period" type guys can live with it. Looks like you started something Metalshaper!

I didn't miss your smiley, but you apparently missed the one in mine.

And I believe the HAMB cutoff is '64. Show me otherwise & I'll quit with the snippy chit. :D

I have always thought anyone who has one of these "trucks" should go to one place to duke it out..... We could face off for coolness awards!!!

I found another old pic of another truck racing at the famous "Little Springfield" dirt track. I believe this to be from the mid 50's. I'm now kind kind of interested in finding out more about this class or how many trucks that actually did race here.

  30. Hahaha - Love the ramshackle mix of all that mismatched shit but am especially turned off by the combination of an early, oversized front end and the 8.8 diff - the epitome of jack handle engineering - these guys don't see an issue fitting whatever parts they can find and justify it by saying it's true to original backyard builders of the day.

Don't forget, for that scenario, now you need a pair of wheel adapters for the rear 'cause it'll be too expensive to redrill the bolt pattern (or heaven forbid order axles with the right pattern). I don't know why but this one parts choice really bugs me...
