  2. On the front, leaf springs on the rear. With the extra coil springs over the axle it really drove down hill, but I'll bet it got better mileage going down hill all the time.

We all looked alike didn't we. Yea looked like I hadn't eaten in a while.

If I could remember where it is, there is a Youtube, a low budget documentary about some folks with about 2 seconds of me getting up on the seat. Man did I ever look like a scare crow back then.

I knew hanging out with them guys would make me famouse. :D

Hey I was looking at this old thread and it reminded me of what a lot of us were still doing into the later '70s.

You learn something every day. I wondered if the lyric/title had been misconstrued like Deep Purple's tune. "Slow motion Walter, fire engine guy". :D

  5. The common beliefe and what was written in the magazines etc was that ina gadda davida was some other language for in the garden of eden. i don't recall what language it was supposed to be something like ehtheopian or swahili or the like.

I think it all came down to the groupe being afraid of the baptists and wanting to get air time for their music.

Editors note: bapitsis was just a nominal name for the religious groupe of your choice, thus all lower case.

I just figured they were loaded when they recorded the song.

  7. Actually I was scooter trash in the '70s. I guess I still am, but I am also into and always have been into hot rods.

I remember one morning after an all night ride sitting with my little brother on top of the great divide watching the Sun come up. He really didn't like being that far from home so we were doing a lot to settle his nerves. He looked across at me and said, "ya know I never really considered myself to be a hippy biker, but I am different than the rest."

Had a lot of good time with Dennis, of all that I have lost I think I miss him the most.

I am not ashamed of my past, just damned sorry it didn't last any longer than it did.

Uh sorry to get all touchy feely on ya fellas. Sometimes trips to the past do that to me.

  9. No but one of my favorite songs when I was twisted was Martian Boogie by Brownsville Station.

"Those aren't crayons those are martian cigarettes." :D:D

I really liked to listen to Savoy Brown the Jack the Toad album.

    How about this one:

I was a biker in the 70's too and still am. I didn't make it to Sturgis until 1983 though. I did ride a rigid pan with a springer from NH so that should count for something!

    What I ride now:

I got it. Check my location. 4:20 caught on like a California wildfire.

Nope. I was confused by the "back in the day" part, mind you.

  16. Dont know how true it is but this is what I have been told ..... Ron Bushy was the drummer.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
A commonly related story says that the song's title was originally "In the Garden of Eden" but at one point in the course of rehearsing and recording, singer Doug Ingle became intoxicated and slurred the words, creating the mondegreen that stuck as the title. However, the liner notes on 'the best of' CD compilation state that drummer Ron Bushy was listening to the track through headphones, and could not clearly distinguish what Doug Ingle answered when Ron asked him for the title of the song (which was originally "In-the-Garden-of-Eden"). An alternate explanation, as given in the liner notes of the 1995 re-release of the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album, is that Ingle was drunk or high, or both, when he first told Bushy the title, and Bushy wrote it down. Bushy then showed Ingle what he had written, and the slurred title stuck.

  17. I had a rigid pan with a springer from '77-'82. See popst # 176.

I can really appreciate your ride from NH to Sturgis in '83. Mine still looked like this in '83 when I made a bat trip to Oregon from here.

Dam, P&B, that was just like mine except I had a chrome springer and 3.5 fat bobs. Ran shot guns and the same spun aluminum oil tank and foot boards. The thing rode like a Mack truck. Good thing I was young back then!:D

Ya know what else I was doing as a kid in the 70's? Enjoying NASCAR up 'til 81 or so. 70's NASCAR ruled! Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough........ those were the best cars and the best races (for me).
Went hand in hand with foil wrapped Ding Dongs (remember those)?

It was good in the 70's when it got shown on TV. Only a few races ever got shown and that was on Wide World of Sports. Even then it was a tape. Hell, it was a bad storm that got the Daytona 500 first shown on TV.

Since actively participating in this somewhat confessional thread I've had this mysterious van parked across the street for the last week. I've seen two pizzas delivered to it and can swear the center of the 9 blinks.
