Steve,,,Dont think we are going back out till early April. March is booked solid right now. We usually have breakfast at an I hop out on us60 & ValVista area before heading down the road! We have been trying to commute & use as few vehicles as possible to spread the cost of fuel out. If we all drove, the cost would kill us!!!

LOL Ok a ravine, but I still wouldn't want to be lugging those pieces up out of it

Yeah, with so much to do in March and we already have one planned for next week.

Will probably , but not for sure, wait until April. March is sooo busy.
I am running 3 shows this month, 1 in Maricopa and 2 at Speedworld.
I'd like to invite all hambers to attend. The Maricopa one is free and includes lunch and drink too!

Then, the last weekend of March-
Saturday March 31 is Pontiac Heaven and
Sunday, April 1 the 10th annual Nostalgic Show & GO! at Speedworld.

We will have a display poster and info about our "auto archeological" hikes as I call them. Headlining will be a wild A/FX and altered wheelbase Shoot out! plus car show, parts exchange and lots of racing- all rods, front engined dragsters, altereds, gassers, stockers, etc are most welcome as we celebrate doing this now for 10 years!
Come out and meet us as we plan these trips all over Arizona and possibly eventually into New Mexico, Utah and Colorado.

We will have at least 2 in April and glad to have guest attend with our "Az Pontiac Power" group.

More pics from our trips coming but, here is one from yesterday that Phat Rat sent me. It ended up snowing a bit Monday night. Maybe it ended up a good thing that we went on Monday but, personally, I wish it now had been Tues to see the light amount of fresh snow!

If anyone would like to join us next Tuesday for a trip to the Pima Air Musem and aircraft bone yard, contact me. We also plan to visit the auto pit in the Benson area too. If anyone else has info to share in the Tucson Benson area, let us know. We will see just how much we can cram into one day! If you live in that area, you can meet up with us for a bite to eat or something as well. Let me know.

I also have some early 70s Ymaha trail bikes and want to find others to do some trail riding in the same area sometime.....

Steve, the snow in that pic doesn't look bad but coming down to that lookout, the one where we stopped Mon. it was slushy/slick conditions and one wreck. But it was a pretty picture coming down.

Imagine that road back in the day with nothing but gravel with no guard rails!!! Hence all the tin scattered down the sides!!!

The car that was off had gone into the cliff side and looked as though the left rear wheel assembly was busted off. The weather wasn't anything for this veteran of 52 years driving in Mi. snow conditions. Saw a lot of vehicles off the road between the canyon and Payson. One included a van that had been pulling an empty car trailer. The trailer was about a hundred yards further down the road from the van. Lucky there were no others involved

This is part of the way down this steep crack in the ground. The view was outstanding!

Thanks for posting! Next best thing to being there with you guys. Nothing like that here in Indiana, we have to go on vacations to see scenery like that, and the old cars are just a bonus!

  13. We just visited this pit, 5 of us. Thanks for sharing where it is. It's easy to find once you know where it is. Will get pics posted later. Now headed to Pima Air Museum

We enjoyed our visit to the pit near Benson. About 50 cars and trucks from the very early 50's through the mid 60s.

This is a '60 Pontiac Ventura

  16. This is a great thread. Outstanding photos! Thanks for sharing. The pictures at the start of the thread are awesome. For a moment I thought you'd stumbled across the most complicated question in history: " where did they dump all the wrecks from that Blues Brothers movie?"

Looks like the gauge panel is missing on the Impala dash. What it the car with its' nose up in the air between the Impala and the '60 Merc?

I really enjoy this thread! Cool finds!

I carefully put this trip together that we left the Phoenix area at 4am. That put us at this car pit right at dawn (6:40), the coldest, and thus, least likely time to have issues with that. We were out of there by just after 8am and on our way to the Pima Air museum.

Wow! Take a battery powered sawzall out there and start salvaging patch panels. Lotta stuff could be saved using the metal outta these. I know I need patches for my 62 Ford Ranch Wagon.
