Just curious ....if you haven't yet contact them then why are you saying they are being jerks about it ? Send them a registered letter explaining your position and asking them to explain in writing ( not on the phone ) the reason for the charges.

I was saying they're being jerks about it because of the way their laws and their rules are.

And I think the DMV in California have proven themselves repeatedly over the years that they are real ***es. For example, why would they require anybody out of state to retake the written test if they are applying for a driver's license in California? I don't see other states doing the same things they are doing.

Texas does one thing right on our car ***les. There is a tear off section that the seller fills out with the buyer info and you send it in with $5 and they take you off the data base as owner. If you send it in they can never come back to you if say, the car is abandoned after a wreck or if it is found as a robbery getaway car.

California has had non-op forever. If you don't plan to use your vehicle simply non-op it and all this **** wouldn't happen. In 2002 a friend gave me a bike that hadn't been on the road since 1975. He had it on non-op. When I went to the DMV it was pay them $38 and away I went with new tags. I rode it for a couple of years and put it on non-op as I wasn't going to use it. Same with my Fairlane. I put it on non-op when Its not being used and the tags are going to run out. I've never had a problem with the DMV. Play by their rules and its a breeze.

Possibly because nowadays only an idiot would move to California? And you want to make sure that idiot can p*** a test?
