First off I hope no one goes by the name Mr.Rustoleum here...:D

:mad:Anyhow, I know Im a hack and I know Im cheap BUT...
Ive come to pride myself on my rattle bomb skills and technique. Today that all changed...

I ran out of my handy Rustoleum Satin Black and Rusty Metal Primer so I ran to the store to pick up a couple new cans...

Did what I always do, clean, wipe tack, prep, prime...

 WAIT!! WHAT A F-IN MESS!! Runs, drips, sags, etc:mad:

I could have had better results painting with a garden hose! Those new "high output" nozzles are horrible!! 1 tap throws about a pint of paint at 1 square inch! And the overspray is ridiculous...

Anyways, I like the "E-Z Touch Tip" that ACE has on their cans but their paint kinda sucks (I do like their primer though).
If Rustoleum doesnt go back to their little red nozzles, Im going to have to find a new brand...

    I need a beer...

I noticed that too. I haven't been using it long by any means, but if you aren't careful you can really screw things up. I wonder if you can swap sprayers from another spray can, say your old cans you are done with that still spray ok... just a thought..

It sounds weird but was the spray can cold? If they are around 70 degrees they shoot better. Well they seem to in my head anyways.....

I found that, too. The new spray tops suck, clog up and puke out large particles, not a smooth spray. The paint has definitely changed, too. I switched over to Krylon. Painted my dash and other trim in satin black and came out nice.

WOW, I have used it on small part with good results, soaking the can in warm water to help atomize the paint. Then i did a touchup job on a friends Jeep that wasn't worth the price of a quart of automotive paint, so I thought I would try the new nozzled rustoleum can on it, I prepped it the same as usual and primed, painted and cleared it. You do have to keep the can moving because of the higher volume of paint being sprayed, but I was impressed with how well it turned out, and the owner didn't have a clue it was spray paint. i know what you mean. i tried to paint a model kit with those new nozzles, what a pain and had to strip it. what i find that works better is a automotive touch up gun. easier to contol than a big gun and just a smaller amount of paint. i haven't sprayed a model yet, but it works good on bigger stuff. obviuosly, you need a compressor and a pint of paint though.
oh yea, also you can shoot that duplicolor candy colors in there paint shop line.

I've been a krylon man for at least the last 20 years.

It's become so much harder to find now then it used to be and they've switched some of their formulas too. They changed the tips and I was griping to the guy at the local paint shop about it and he explained that krylon had to change the formula because of emissions or V.O.C.s, or whatever(California). The new tips are supposed to work better with the new recipe I think.

over the past 3 days i've gone through a bunch of different spray bombs. I got the Rustoleum metalic paint for some trim pieces on my dash, with that I noticed you absolutely have to have the shop warm or you'll get nothing but runs. I also bought a couple cans of Valspar, lets just say I threw that away, it never fully cured, and was a total waste of money. Today I sprayed Krylon's "triple thick" clear, same as the rustoleum. If your spraying on something cold, or slightly cold, you get alot of runs. The thing that pissed me off about the Krylon is that the sprayer was junk from the first squeeze. I stole the nozzle from the rustoleum can.

  17. i been using rustoleum and krylon lately and I started to fall in love more with krylon,,they have this hardened metal paint in black and flat black, its sooo yummy,Its acrylic tho.
They also have it in gallons and its cheaper than rustoleum..
You can go to a graffitti site and get some "bomb" tip for 10 bucks a kit and they work with a lot of spray can manufacturers, the nice thing about the tips:they come in different size and patterns and you can actually spray more and overspray less with some of the tips.:)

I hated the new nozzle at first, but... after a little practice, the higher volume is kinda nice.

You could just pop a hole in the top of the can, let all the gas expell and then dump the contents into a sealable plastic bottle, then use the paint in your air brush....I find the old GI issued can openers work well for this...

  22. Not to hijack, but I've found that True Value's house brand ("Decor" or something like that) is some of the best spray bomb stuff around (and cheap, too). I've never used a spray can that went on or flowed out more like a gun... Give it a "shot".

if this is true it should be easier to change to the tips you want. graffitti kids always have a bunch of caps for different techniques.

Funny that you say that. Graffiti artists have actually given us the best spray can tips out there...

Just a sample of what's out there. http://www.bombingscience.com/shop-tips.htm
I get them at the local head shop.

  25. The real question is, why in the hell are you guys using hardware store paint!?!?!?!?

Your paint jobber will have real primer and etching primer in cans for not much more and you don't have to worry about topcoating over it.

You can buy different tips or borrow them from other cans. In Dallas we actually have shops that sell em for hmm hmm "artists"..

It pains me to see that there is an industry dedicated to the worthless garbage that destroys every surface around here with a goddamn 'tag". They are not artists, they are targets.
