I feel like punching "Mr.Rustoleum" in the face!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Slick Willy, Mar 9, 2012.

  1. I like dupli-color for best results when using spray bombs. Krylon & then rusty-o-leum. Ace stuff is less expensive but I think is thinner & the coverage is less. When you get near the bottom of the can of ACE it seems to run a lot easier.
Just my thoughts. When I worked in the paint industry you could get most any paint in a rattle can. They did have quota you had to buy & I think I seen some auto paint stores that will put your paint in a spray bomb.
Air brush or touch up gun is the way to go.

I also have found out the new spray tips suck they drip everywhere. I have called to let them know what I think of their new product change and I would suggest some of you doing it too the number and web site address are on the can

  4. Do the old nozzles fit on the new cans? Maybe see if you have some old cans lying around to rob the old nozzles off of...

I've always had the WORST luck with Rustoleum. Fisheyes after excellent prep, orange peel a go-go at lower shop temps, LONG dry times.....tried Dupli-Color and a few others at 5 bucks a pop with same problems with the lower shop temp.

Went to Lowe's and bought their CHEAPEST semi black enamel out of frustration. Like 99cents and marked "Spray Paint". Went on like a DREAM. I couldn't believe I was DONE. Same prep and shop temp. It was only the grille on my brother-in-law's C-10 but I was SICK and TIRED of a quickie mask and spray turning into a week long trial of patience.

rustoleum must have a great salesman because it's everywhere now. i've bought it when there's nothing else, regreted everytime. i think it's been reformulated, at least here in kalifornia it has been. junk. krylon used to be better than it is now also.

Rustoleum has always been bogus It was and still may be a fish oil based paint that just does'nt work with other paints (over or under) SEM is the best rattle can paint for spot work or even larger areas.Their self etching primer works with everything and sprays out as nice as you could want, but it's pricey. Duplicolor is a great second choice and is more reasonably priced. Have had great luck with both. Krylon does'nt have enough solids to cover as well ,but sprays nice and it's cheap, better for house hold stuff. Well that's my experience hope it helps. But Isay stay away from rustoleum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUCKD

I have had good luck with rustoleum, but I have a odd way of doing it. Wash the part real well with soap and water and when it is dry spray it down with brake parts cleaner. As soon as it drys off put a very light coat on, wait 10 minutes and do it again. Dont put a heavy coat on or it will run. Also it takes like 2 days to fully dry.

Yep. Fish oil. That's what I understand and it's hotly debated whether it dries at all..

Yes you can! I do it all the time for when I'm spraying model car parts... As long as the nozzles are the same style....

The northeast was a big "p" word this winter, and Ive gone broke without the snowplow hitting the pavement!

So, what else to do when broke? I tore apart the roadster and rebuilt the chassis...and now im scuffing drips, sags, runs etc!

I've been using VHT spray bombs lately with great results bought at Auto zone. They're a little pricey so I don't know if they'd be any good for you Bill. The directions are a little diff. too...2 light coats followed by a medium coat all ten mins. apart. And they're high temp too !!! My$.02

It sounds to me like you got some paint that has been frozen at one time or another. you may buy the same paint from another store and it will work just fine.

I used it with no problems on several jobs. Your just retarded! :D Joke!

  24. Someone mentioned contacting Rustoleum regarding this ... it has been done. I contacted them myself quite a while ago complaining that the new nozzles absolutely SUCK, and that I was not going to be buying their spray cans anymore. Never did hear back from them  go figure. I can't help but wonder if the idea is to glop the paint on so thick that there is virtually no overspray ... kind of an HVLP spray can.

I do continue to use their product, but NOT the spray cans. If I need to spray something, I thin it and run it through a cheap gun.

I also got to where I hate Rustoleum. So I have been using Van Sickle tractor enamel on most things now and love the way it sprays. But you have to let it sit and dry for about 3 days before touching it to much, however it seems to hold up really well once it dries. Just sprayed the Unibody's wheels with it and has a great gloss to it(Even plan on painting one of my trucks with it).

If I need a faster dry time, I use Krylon, Duplicolor or Ace.

  26. If you like to spray bomb paint thing you can often go to a "quality" paint shop and get "quality" paint put into spray cans. they do not last as long, but you can have custom colors and you can choose the tip that is right for your appication. ( I used spray paint all the time when I was in school for architecture) clean your tips when you are done with them and they will last.
