Sorry, it's been a few weeks. Works been crazy. Have one exhaust almost complete. Had to change the design a little. Looks sweet! I'll post up pics soon.

In the meantime...my motor mounts are whittled up! Thanks Stuck381 for the hook-up. Check em out!

Cool build - model shop to metal fab! Love that neighborhood resource. That post on Ontario track looks like a blast. You gotta love Tommy Ivo Cars too! Keep it going.

Man this is too cool, just promise to post a video of it running when you get it going. I think my favorite smell in the world is a 2 stroke running :D.

Thanks man. Yeah, I've cashed in pretty much all of my favors on this one. But each part has its' own story-most of which involve good friends!

Will-do for sure. Can't wait for the initial fire-up. Should be soon!

    Thanks bro.

I get the twin part (nothing new), but what's the twist?

Not trying to be new, just different. Twins are different. Vertical shaft Lawnboy 2 strokes converted to horizontal are the "twist".

Glad to see you're watching Russ.

No doubt. My minibike club is going in on one. So I'll have some action footage.

Thanks. I've been building this thing in my head since probably the 6th grade.

When I was a kid I did a cart with a Lawn Boy. Put an oversize carb on it. That thing was fast. A little slow getting going, but fast on top end!

Shweet! Time to do another one?

Got the mount plates back. Fabbin the chain guards right now. The O2 tank idea is working out perfect! Got sidetracked with a little minibike score. Got three Harrison Wildcats and a Heathkit Boonie Bike in a package deal. In the process of flippin most of these to replenish the kart fund. Boonie is already sold and I'm gonna keep the red Wildcat.

  17. Cool project! I have always wanted an old kart like that, I raced new karts when I was 14, but I read some killer old books about old school go karting when I was in elementary school, and have wanted one scince.

There's a guy on YouTube that's running L-B twins from several years back.
After searching further...he's been around since 2007.
Claims his design has been several years in the making.
    No twist... (and) or shout.

Just found this thread and wanted to give you a heads-up. Typically, the carbs are mounted forward, so that you can hand-choke while starting AND so that you can tune, at least, the hi speed jet down the straight. Hopefully, you never get the piss shocked out of an elbow. Sorry, if I'm late with this news or if you have already scienced this out. Looks like you have been enjoying the build and hope the riding is even better. Keep up the great work.

How about an update on your progress.

    Hello all!

Sorry for the months-long delay. Life kinda got in the way. Bought a house, moved, and remodeled. But I was able to get my shop relatively set up before the Holidays so I've been making some progress. I'm settled in now so hopefully the updates will keep on comin.

Flipped all the minibikes and was able to replenish the Kart fund. Plus I traded one of the Wildcats for a Miller 110V MIG with gas. Movin' on up!

Back to the engine mounts. Flat plates are done. Need to fab the clutch guards. Remember the sections of O2 tank? Went with the 6".

Made a template to get the shape roughed-out.

Added some lightening holes to give it that "vintage racer" look.

    Yup, that should work.

Transferred the template to the tank section. I used a combination of my drill press, bench grinder and angle grinder to cut it to shape. My benchtop bandsaw didn't want to cut aluminum, even with a metal blade. No power I guess.

After some time with a die grinder and my belt sander they turned out sweet!

Also wanted to roundover the outside edge of the plates. A friend told me a Carbide bit in my shaper would do the trick.

Ran 'em though. Cut like ****a!

Also milled a V-grove in the bottom of the plates where there will be a **** weld.

Fabbin' done. Time to polish. Here's the before. Check out the mill marks on everything.

And after about 20 hours of wet sanding and buffing. And the worst part is that after they're welded I'll have to do it again!

At this point my buddy Drew took 'em and performed his magic. Thanks bro!

Got 'em home and mocked up.

Next up-time to wrap up the exhaust.

Are your back tires 11x6.00-5 ? If so where did you get them ? I tried buying mine from K&P but they sent me duros twice so I gave up.

Yes I believe that's the right size. I'll double-check. Got em from gokartsupply.com.
