firewall recess mockup... Bent up some 18ga panels, rolled a few beads in them, and tacked them in. the pedals don't hit it and I can still pull the distributor... mission accomplished. Just gotta weld it up and add a flange along the inside lower edge for the toeboard to sit on and bolt to.

Looking good Andy!! It's gonna be nice all week in Buffalo so we're all expecting some major updates through out the week. I think you need to get about 2 boxes of 36 grit rolocs so you can smooth out those ramhorns and either have them chromed or jet coated black......or you just paint them I suppose.

Did that trick you guys used on Jim's firewall no allow for enough room?

Yea, they're a little raunchy, but they'll have to wait for now... The lower section of this firewall was so chawed up it had to be replaced anyhow, this just seemed easier. Plus with the yblock dist WAY in the back there I need a little more room I think.

    Andy,
I found that small barrel sanders work great for the nooks and crannies

I like these for little areas and inside round holes but they tend to leave some little sharp slivers, the kind you don't find until you touch something

Yea those carbide bits work pretty well but they also throw a shit ton of tiny, HOT, sharp, chunks around. I always worry about my eyes when using them. Jerry those sanding rolls look like they might work good, gonna grab a few of them. I got a small 90* die grinder with some 2.5" grinding wheels that works pretty well, just out of wheels.

I think I'm gonna make a steel toeboard like 33-34 pickups have and skip the wood...

  10. You only have one set of eyes Andy. Safety glasses, face shield, gloves and hearing protection. There's your safety lecture for the day.

You're not kidding Art, I have had to get metal pieces removed from my eyes a few times... it's no fun. The last time I dug the little bastard out myself... I'm so paranoid about it now, I check my eyes out first thing when I come in from the garage. Occaisionally I find a little chunk down in the corner under my eyelid that I didn't even know was there!

I have gotten metal dug out after the rust ring formed too. Misery at its finest. I now use Eyegogs as I have had stuff bounce off of the inside of my safety glasses and into my eye. Build looks awesome by the way. I wish I could get myself out to the shop to work on my heap more.

And to think we almost lost the body on the thruway because we were going to put the body on cinder blocks on the trailer. If that would have happened we would have just kept diggin'!!!! It was operation Dank Nugs if that happened!!!

Firewall welded up/braced... I used some 1x2 16ga tubing to shore the cowl up here, I'll use some more to tie this brace into the A pillars which will also be reinforced... no cowl shake here.

floorpans are goin in... I sliced a piece of the aforementioned tubing lengthwise and hammered it flat in the appropriate areas that it crosses over the frame/Xmember/TT (keep in mind that the trans is currently an inch higher than it will be when bolted in and the TT will be a few inches lower once the QC is installed) I don't *think* I'll need a tunnel but we'll see.

Stock floorpans have a recessed bead that follows the X member, I 'm just going to use a die set I made to depressed a round spot around the floor bolt holes in that area. Stock floors also go UNDER the subrails, these are going to be welded on top.
