Here in the east there were many, many altered F/X type cars that ran great run after run from '65 on. The frequent, large open competition S/S-F/X meets would run for a weekend with few breakdowns. It was the altereds and dragsters that were rarely making competitive, two car passes. There were many cars like the Beverly's Bee running and evolving from week-to-week.

And it wasn't about money either.

It was all about crossing the finish line ahead of another car and winning.

Some prize money and a dime store trophy only gave it an appearance of being sportsman like. And we never knew how fast one was or anything about et's either, because there were no clocks.
Back in the day around here open wheel comp cars were a novelty, and fun to watch when a few would show up because they were so different and certainly never carbureted.
Excluding salt, because I've never had a chance to experience that, but nothing even closely resembles auto racing today, straight line or in circles and I miss it badly. Tom S. in Tn.

Would the U/L shoe polished on the window make this a NASCAR or pre AHRA event? Did that stand for unlimited stock?

Seemed like NASCAR used the term Ultra-stock so the U/L may mean that.

This picture is from the 1965 NASCAR S/S Bonanza meet at Spruce Creek, FL during Daytona Speed Weeks. All the S/S-F/X cars were in one class except for the "Unlimited" class which was for blown and lightweight cars. The blown Jon Thorne cars were there, Mr. Norm's blown '65 sedan and Huston Platt's Chevelle here among the U/L entrants.

NASCAR later has U/S or Ultra Stock classes after this meet.

Thanks Joel. I'm slowly getting it.
Later in AHRA Ultra/Stock classes, was the engine setback allowed to be moved like rear axle and wheelbase for different classes ?

Heres a few shots of Mr Norms 65 FXer at Iggys Muffler shop which was also on Grand Ave. and I suspect its getting headers installed. Iggys also built the headers on the first Big Block Dart conversion cars.

Mike Sullivan is building the blue and white Fiat fuel altered again....it won't be a static cackle car, but something he can run, so the chassis is different enough to pass tech, but it'll basically be the shorty monster most of us Left Coast folks remember

would love to see all the pics people can come up with of the original car...the white injected Fiat is the same car as the blue painted one, so those work too....

x2 If they were there there before, how did they suddenly exceed band width?

"Exceeds band width with too many views" ??? We looked at them too much?

    And while I'm at it....

    From Jerry Clayton-

News item--its official--California Charger FED is on the way to Don Long's shop for restoration work....unsure if it'll be a static cackle car (most likely, it was just too beautiful the way it was) or pipes added to run current spec.....

Reason I asked is that I met W C Mike back in the 90's when he downloaded some computer programms and a PC lesson in a race trailer in England. It ended with whisky and beer and bench racing, very fond memories.
