Good Guy's Scottsdale, Is it just me, or...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by need louvers ?, Mar 12, 2012.

  1. Kirk! This was my first Scottsdale G G. I loved it! We vacation here every spring and this time it coincided. Question-will the event be same weekend in '13?

  2. I scored this, so, I'm not too upset. If I skip the next few GGs I can even afford to get it restored.

I skipped Sunday, so, I didn't see any of the new stuff. Otherwise, I had a pretty good time. I will say, for future events, I'll drive/push any POS I can in loaded with as many people as possible. It certainly seems the more favorable way to do the show, in every aspect.

I was there Friday..Saturday.. Less cars than ever I guess..but a good time and some great cars and people.

Drove the Stude up with my son.. Great ride..stopped in Florence on the way home..for a pretty decent Greek/Italian Cafe..Mt Athos. A real surprise..really good food.
Saw Kirk wandering around taking pictures. KIRK you looked kinda busy or I would said Hi..but I looked away and man you just disappeared.

You did have that Leprechaun vibe going with the beard..

I like Goodguys..mostly it's a good time talking to people..and seeing some good regular guy builds..and the pro builds..

Didn't stay for Sunday..usually don't. Not real interested in late models..but if it keeps the show alive for Friday and Saturday..
    all good with me..

I don't have hard feeling toward anyone who doesn't like Goodguys. Everyone has an opinion, I know I have PLENTY - lots of them unpopular.

I get frustrated when people bash Goodguys, or any other show for that matter, because it wasn't what they (as an individual) wanted. I just like to find out what they thought they were promised that they didn't get. 99.9% of the time the person complaining made their own decision as to what to expect or is unhappy about something Goodguys can't control, like gas, hotel, spectator parking, or food prices.

The problem is that there are lots of followers out there and when they see a post bashing anything, especially Goodguys, they just want to jump on the bandwagon to feel cool. They don't read further on to when the big kids (like us) are able to have intelligent discussions about the subject. Then they go around parroting what they think they heard and what they think will make them seem cool.

The bottom line is that Goodguys is not a car show for only traditional-style cars. It's a business trying to be all things to all people (which really is impossible). Are they perfect? Hell no. That's why input is always welcome. I still strive to make Goodguys better.

I don't have the dates yet, but most likely. This year some weekends changed because of leap year.

I'm not crazy about having the late models in on Sunday either, and I would rather not see them there. Honestly though, I hardly noticed them. The one I did take notice of was a late model Challenger with a Superbird style wing and nose. I kinda liked it.

But what the hell do I know? I showed up on Sunday in a fucking Jaguar!(what a fag)

I don't know if I totally agree with this. I get what you are trying to say, but I go to certain shows for the "vibe" I get from hanging around the same era cars...

'65 C-10 I had used the same dash, the thing that is hard to find is the sender for the tach probably should put a "wanted" in the classifieds.I looked for two years with no luck.

  17. Ahhhhhh shit. Now you tell me!;)

The quartz movement is kind of tired on this one. I'm thinking about just having Dicks Speed-O-Tach here at 7th St. and Indian School restore the tach only. They want $250 to put a new movement in it. I just need the tach, as my '64 already has the good cluster like this one, it all works, and is original to my truck. I am going to have to adapt it anyways, as my '64 has a 292i6 with HEI.... If you have any more advice/tips, or opinions on Dicks Speed-O-Tach, don't hesitate to PM me. I know it's going to take some more change to get this thing going, but, I'm just happy to have one. Especially for the price I got this one for.:D

  18. Hope Nashville continues. I like that show.

    Surprised Atlanta can't support one.

  19. I always like the set up at the Knotts Berry Farm Ford show.....they put all the 20s stuff together, all the 30s stuff together, all the 40s stuff together exc...they even break it down by years for the Mustangs...

Only want to see Falcons? - go to the Falcon section

Only want to see 55-57 Fords- go to that section....

Dont want to see new cars? Avoid that section...makes it nice and easy.

I have never been to a Good Guys show however I was thinking about going to one at least in my life time. Probably not now. I for one am not interested in going to a show and seeing PT cruisers! Besides the entrance fees seem to be out of wack! Best show that I have been in the states (so far) where the Hunnert Pile-Ups! More shows need inspections like this to keep the crap out!

Nashville is strong! I'll be back for it this year.

We were surprised by Atlanta too. The track was a great venue, but the numbers were very weak.

  22. that would be nice , but do you have any idea the legistics(sp?) envolved in doing something like that especailly at a show like gg columbus ive directed parking at a couple of small shows ......never ever again

on the other hand or someone like me it would be kinda boring because i like all types of cars but seeing row after row of the same thing after awhile blah

Well actually, a lot of folks like to bash the NSRA also.
This bunch just wants to BITCH about something. :D

The bottom line is that if you do not like the show ( event ) then do not go and support it.
I have gone to GoodGuys events. I will not go back to INDY.
Too far for travel wise ... to get to a just OK event ( for me )
No drag racing now ... so I stay home.

I travel to Los Angeles every two or three years for the LA Roadster show. Great distance to travel ( 2500 miles one way ) but a GREAT event and worth the travel to me.

    GoodGuys is a business.
They can run anyway they want. :) :)
Just like I can spend MY MONEY like I want ...

I do believe this to be absolutely TRUE.
I think you do try and are doing a good job.
I am sure that there are things you would DO ... but cannot
because of the " BRASS upstairs "

Ryan, you were who I imeadiately thought of when I noted that I didn't see most of the tucson crowd! But I did see your cars in coverage at the Peterson the week prior so I figured we wouldn't see you guys this time around.
