Love the stance man, you've got it nailed. How's the front tire clearance when turning, good to go or ever so close?

'Roadhouse'....cl***ic!! Should be required viewing in schools.....:D

hey keep it up terd. little stuff at a time man... I wish I could drive mine now. I am going to be riding this thing around looking like a calico cat for a while because it will take me forever to get it in epoxy so don't feel bad about being half one color and half another lol.

    Swayze Crazy!!!

Thanks Juicy!!! Although as you well know, the wheels won't be back til the chromer's cats have puppies at least twice. Almost got the hood ready.

Iron Lords are like the nine hor***** of the apocalypse. Except we ride unicorns.

    Yeah, what he said.^^^

    Roadhouse is always on topic.

The front tires rub just so at full lock. I think I will roll the fenders up there to get a little more clearance.

For me, it wasn't the Rambo knife, or the boot knife, or even nunchuks. It was all about the throwing stars.

Thanks dude! I'm basically getting one body part at a time in the epoxy primer.

Today, I stripped about half the underside of the hood of its paint and I got all the rust out of the front edge of the hood. Delton helped me out a bunch, especially when I got in over my head at one point with a patch piece I made not cooperating. I still have to grind down some welds and strip half the underside of paint.

I'll have that done Monday. I plan to get the hood in epoxy primer on Tuesday and get it back on the truck. I think I may try to pull my old bed off the truck on Wednesday at our shop night, if anybody shows up that is, lol. It's been a little quiet on Wednesdays lately. Maybe I can have the new bed on by next weekend.

Can't wait to see Mr. McKay! Making a lot of head way over there and it's all going be very very Swayze Dogg in the end.

I know I have mentioned this before but if you guys do not have the Roadhouse Special edition with Kevin Smith Commentary on it it's definitely worth getting!!!

I got all the welds ground down and the rest of the paint off the hood. It's ready for primer. Tomorrow looks like rain, so I'll probably spray it on Wednesday. Forgot the camera, sorry, lol.

Thanks Shawn!! I forgot to nail in some braces I had cut out of the edge. So I got those ****oned up and filled some more pinholes I found. I want to try to get the bed off this weekend. I figure two days to take the bed off, clean and POR15 the frame and new rear, then install new bed and new rear. We'll see how that goes. Pics later tonight.

The color in the photo is a little off. The edge is a little pitted, but the hood is clean. It looks like this...

Yesterday, I got my new rear end stripped of its paint and surface rust. It is now ready for the application of POR15. I neglected to get an after pic as I am well retarded. But here is before...

Then, the whole back fell off.

There you are. I nearly lost you there.

The next couple of days will consist of swapping in the new rear, bleeding brakes, cleaning up the frame, and applying the POR15. Then ***embling the new bed and installing it. More pics then.

hey how did those cab corners come out? Did you get the expensive ones that were made in the US or did you go with the cheap ones? Can you take a couple pictures for me? I don't remember seeing them in your previous posts (more interested in the "belt" like that runs down the back of the cab). Are they straight and did you have much trouble with them?

And I saw that pic of the hood on your previous post, I was just wondering what you were going to do about the lip of it. I personally would blast it, as it would only take a couple minutes to clean up, but are you going to wire wheel it instead?

What's the rear end out of? Doesn't look like a stocker, but I could be wrong.

Cab corners came out nice. One was an old piece that fit really well. The other was new by Counterpart and didn't fit so well. I had some really knowledgeable help from my buddy Jeremy that got it fitting nicely in the end. All the patch panels have been mig welded.

All the body lines are pretty straight. Although, I have a pretty good dent right under the rear window (where the grey primer is). There was at least a half inch of bondo there. It should hammer out.

These are pics from Part 3...

The lip of the hood has already been cleaned up with a 3M paint stripper disc. My camera just made it look rusty. It's not rusty, but it is pitted. Those 3M discs are a little pricey at $8-$10 a piece, but they work really well.

The rear is out of another '55 Chevy pickup. That pickup was restored to stock in the late '90s and then street rodded in the early 2000's. It was clipped in the front and had a different rear installed. This rear end has about 5,000 miles since the rebuild/resto before it was pulled. I put a new front pinion seal in it already and will put a new gasket for the rear cover before filling it up with gear oil.

Dang, it's making a lot of progress!

On those cab corners...did you need to replace that much metal?

The answer is "sort of". The inner cab corners were jacked. The outers had some ****ty riveted old repairs. It made it easier to fix everything by using the whole cab corner patch panel.

And thanks! Once the bed is back on, I still have rust repair in the door bottoms.

Thanks dude! I'm extremely lucky to have a lot of help and good advice. Both from the hamb and my friends and fellow club members. I could never pull off an entire body off engine swapping rust fixing job like this without all the help I've gotten.

But yeah, coming soon are the changes that make the most visual impact. Paint and interior, that is.

I spent a couple of hours working on the frame today. I got one leaf spring, the top of one frame rail, and a couple of crossmembers clean to metal. I plan on doing more tomorrow. It's not so easy due to some old rubberized(?) undercoating on a lot of the rear of the frame. I've got to get some more wire wheels, lol. This is going to take a few days but will be well worth the effort when done.

Sometimes you can get a little porpane torch and a sharp s****er to get that undercoating off. You don't want to heat it up enough to smear it but just enough to get the s****er under it. The wire wheels sometime smear it too if it's soft so keep an eye out for it.

Looking good Terd!!! It's really coming along! There's a pretty nice '26 roadster body in the cl***ifieds for $2500. It's got blue paint on it.

Thanks for the tip. I saw the T roadster. I'm going to need a ton of money for the carbs ($600), paint ($1,500), and interior ($1,000). So I think I decided I'm going to hold off buying the next project for now. Even though there's plenty left to do, I feel like I'm on the downhill side of finishing this. I don't want to get held up for lack of funds spent on something I shouldn't start working on til the truck is finished anyway.

I got some more paint stripping/rust removal done on the frame today. Now, all that's left to do is inside the frame rails. I should be able to mostly knock that out tomorrow. I'm going to try and swap rear ends on Wednesday. So long as that works out, I'll apply the POR15 on Thursday.

This is how I've been driving around the last couple of days...

Your truck looks cool even like this!! Are you keeping the kick stand lakes pipes?

Can you post your make and size of tires?

    Thanks Bstie

  26. Terd, if I were you, I wouldn't chrome the timing cover gaskety thing. It won't stop the slight leak. But, then, I'm not you so maybe I would. What the hell is a dalton?

Thanks. I'm keeping the kick stand pipes. The tires are vintage H78-15's. I have some killer tires to go on sooner or later. They're US Royals with a narrower whitewall and a super sweet sidewall pattern. I got them from Stephen Fields, supposedly from a show car built some time around '59-'60 that was never driven and then the tires were removed after a couple of years. But they look brand new. This is just a long winded way of saying Stephen Fields kicks ***, lol.

I've got an extra timing cover I'm going to have plated. I just want to change the seal and gasket to stop the leak. Hopefully stop the leak that is, it's just a felt seal. I need to find out if there's an upgrade rubber seal or similar. Anyway, I figure if the cover is coming off, might as well replace it with a chrome one. It was something I had considered doing before the engine went in, but didn't because it didn't leak then.

And don't let Dalton hear you talk like that. He gives out round house kicks like candy. :D

Man Terd, that truck is sweet. I like the hood hinges, where'd you get them? I am having trouble with the hood hinges yanking the front clip towards the doors (****ing up the gap and causing me to be able to open the doors). Do you know if those would work on my 59? I know the hinges are different between 1955-57 and 1958-59, but didn't know if that was an aftermarket hinge that would apply to mine as well. Keep on it brother, its looking nice.

Sounds like the top fender bolt is not doing it's job, either it's missing, or loose, or the threads are stripped (very common on these trucks). There usually are a couple shims between the fender and cab, to adjust the height of the fender.
