Re the pulley, just get your own 59 type pulley, turn off the most forward one and everything will fit just fine

Still pondering the pulley situation, trying to decide whether to use the stock fan pulley or go with the generator mount.

Anybody with experience using the generator mounted fan? I'm just wondering if the generator bearings are up to the task long term

Other than that, I need to get the radiator ordered. I ordered up a set of dies for my power hammer last month, so that pretty much blew my roadster budget......

  4. Sweet build, love it!

The cut K member pains me though. Those T-5's fit nice with an F-1 unit. You only have to add this little piece. Save the K member for a period build with a 39 case or other. Doesn't matter... your already there, and it looks sick!

This a a cheap trick for 59ab and a Model A radiator... if you don't wanna spend the loot for a 32. When usually... they sit to high on a model A anyway. Buy a 29 grill shell, they are smaller, run your 32 grill trimmed a hair, and done... cheap'e soloution.

Your car isn't just ordinary... it's TITS!

Generator mount is great, and space-saving

Thanks for the ideas. I'm intrigued with the 2 pictures. On the one with the F-1 crossmember, do you have another angle showing where the trans actually mounts? I have an F-1 crossmember, so that might be a good option, especially since the pedals then become a no-brainer.
I also like the second picture with the split outlet to the radiator, but what about the bottom end? Any shots of how that's split.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  7. Here is a pic of it during the mock up, tacked in so I could check everything for fit. After all was good, I did take out that right angle piece and roto broach it with holes and rounded all the edges. A few holes for aesthetics, and a pair to mount the hard rubber under the trans. The engine aslo had hard rubber mounts.

For some reason I can't find any pics of the final product, my pics are all over the place. But I did find this pic of my garage cat Johnny on the job that day. Good boy!

I also didn't take any pics of the bottom radiator tubing, but it was the same premise, just different.

F-1 crossmembers fit like gloves in three two frames and locate the pedals perfectly.
They also look nice in A frames, but you must relocate the pedal assembly. Easiest way in an A frame/F-1 crossmember set up is to fill the holes on driver side with some slugs, then cut the other passenger holes out and flip to the other side so everything looks clean and you were never there. A few ways to skin that cat, but that is how I do it.

Pretty soon I'll be building a 33 frame with some tricks. Not sure if I can use a F-1 yet. Also not sure what trans I'm running so I may just modify the 33. We'll see.

Good luck, project looks great. If i find more pics... I'll lay'em on you.

Who do you guys like for radiators? The stock grill height looks good with the 30/31 body,
so I'd think a stock '32 radiator would work without modification, but as expensive as they are, I only want to buy it once![/QUOTE]

Ricks Radiator on Arrow HWY in Azusa did mine. You can also find them at every Pomona Swapmeet.

    Like the build!

GREAT info on the F-1 crossmember. I'll start getting mine drilled out of the truck chassis this weekend. It just solves all kinds of problems. Now I'm kind of sorry I cut into the '32 K member, although I did save all the parts I cut out....
Thanks also for the info on the radiator. I'll check out Ricks. I'm not trying to build a credit card car and like to use local shops whenever possible.
    Thanks again.

Picked up the radiator this morning. Got it from Rick's radiators in Azusa. Great guy, great radiator and a great price. Can't beat that combination! It looks like it will be too tight to use the original fan set up, so I'll go with the generator mounted style instead. I guess that's why it's a good idea to mock up.
I also got a set '39 pedals and decided to stick with the '32 K member. I don't want to split the wishbone so I'll keep the K member with it's ball mount.
After struggling with the F1 box, I scored a '32 steering box! It needs to be gone through, but now the column angle and location will work without having to resort to U-joints.
Enough gathering of parts, it's time to get back to work.

Finally! The build I've been wanting to see! Not sure why it took me this long to find the thread...

Looks GREAT, Mark!!!! Can't wait to see it in person!

The breakfast crew have definitely chatted about coming up to check out the grounds, sometime! I really hope to be a part of it!

Keep up the good work! Subscribed!

BTW... Just an observation. I noticed the roadster is sitting where a plane was sitting. Did you guys finish that plane already???

    Hi Scott,
The YMF is close, maybe 8 weeks out, the Cabin Waco is a big push to get to Oshkosh, the Black TravelAir is on hold until the Wacos are done. They're all still in there, just re-arranged.
We're having an antique airplane fly-in at Flabob on Saturday April 30th. Real low key, no judging or anything, just old planes, old friends and good old time. Come on out...

So it's been a while since an update. Mainly because there was really been nothing new to report.
I'd reached the point where I had a whole bunch of stuff mocked up, but nothing finished.
I really want this car to drive straight, but without a good frame jig, I was worried about getting it twisted. I could go into a whole long line of excuses, but the bottom line was that at this point I want a car more than I want another project.
I decided the best way to accomplish that was find an expert and let him do what he does so I could concentrate on what I do, so a couple of weeks ago I dropped it off to Steve and the guys over at Limeworks.
When the car was just sitting there mocking me, I wasn't very excited about it, now that there's some nice progress being made, it's exciting all over again.
    Funny how that works.....

More progress to report. The pedals and rear section X-member sections arrived and are in process of being mocked up.

We didn't want to cut up the original K member any more, so went with a set of repro '32 pedals rather than the '39 set I had. Nice to have something that just bolts in.

If anyone needs a set of Drake repro '39 pedals, I'll make you a swinging deal.....

Not pinched. Just a stock looking '32 chassis with a '31 roadster body.

So when I visited Steve a week ago, everyone was trying to figure out why the pedals were interfering with the engine. First thought was that the engine was too far back. Further investigation revealed that I had the K member too far forward. I had located it using a wishbone about 2 inches shorter than a stock '32 piece. With the K member moved back to it's correct location, the pedals now work great. Torque rod going in, along with rear shock mounts.
Things are a lot easier when you're dealing with a pro that knows what they're doing.

Cheers Mark , it's fun working with some who knows what he wants , all we have to go is guide & put parts where they are supposed to be :). More updates today , she's out of the fixture & on the floor getting mock up assembly , we are going over the trans to complete the K member & we "flanged" your center section , that added a bunch of strength .With the center bridged you will have a structurally sound K member.

Had a nice visit with Steve this afternoon. Frame is out of the jig and back on the ground. Looks really great, I couldn't be happier with it.

It ALL looks great, but I really like the lower front shock mounts tapped into the wishbones. Great idea.
