History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

A Jr Buzz Bomb. Probably not much larger than 320" with little short injector stacks on an Enderle and headers tuned to make it run above 10-11K. These things would sing through in the lights sounding like a bunch of 2 stroking Japenese chain saws.
I notice this car had the additional diagonal from the upper rail to the roll bar found on a few RCS fuelers. Any story about this car or what it started life as?

Based on the demensions, I say it had been a jr fuel chassis all along, but with some upgrades. When these cars first started to debut they featured tubing that was really too thin. Made them light and fragile. I think a lot of owners saw this tried to correct the problem with additional bracing. I admit that the extra roll cage bracing does bare resemblence to Beebe and Mulligan rail.

 

Typical Vietnam era bracket racing with helmetless driver. Green GTO's engine tuner Ramon Lowe was area Pontiac specialist.

That scoop looks like one popular back then that kinda mimicked a mid sixties Corvette style hood scoop. I remember seeing them in Honest Charlies and Almquist catalogs.

blue chevelle is a '66

 

I like the back of the hood tilted up like that. The old "Bad News" '62 lightweight I helped with back in those days had 2"X2" blocks of wood between the fibergass hood and the hood hinges. After the Bad News showed up at the local drag strip, the "Esso Special" '62 409 Chevy of Bob Thomas - Howard Neal pre-"Strip Teaser" days added spacers to their hood. This is sure period correct as many of the cars back then had this done to them.

 

If memory serves me correct, I believe you could get away with one inch in stock using flat washers stacked between the hood and hinges. Guys in stock said they did it because it would let air in, while faster modifieds and gassers did this to let under hood air pressure out. Who knows.
