Thanks dude, but I think I need to take a lot more drugs before I'm on the same plane of existence as Germ. :D

Will do. I appreciate you, thanks!

If you remember my previous update, I had scored two front bed panels. Well, the guy I sold the old bed to needed one so I gave him a call. He wanted it and surprised me by coming up with a rear cross sill for me.

I got half of my front bed panel to bare metal today. I spent the rest of the day with Buffalo Mikey getting the Iron Lords' Lair cleaned up. I'm switching spots in the shop and he helped me get a bunch of my stuff moved over. The club is throwing a party for the upcoming Charlotte Autofair in a little over three weeks from now. So we've been trying to get things in order sooner rather than later. It's also really motivating to see things in order and a little neater.

This is the pile of stuff I got...

The black piece is a new repop. I chose to keep the original piece as the character lines are sharper (and it'll probably fit better). Hard to believe almost 60 year old steel is in this good of shape. I won't have to do any repairs to this or even pound out any dents. The only body part I'll have with zero repairs, lol...

By the way, I'm using 3M's excellent paint stripping discs on a drill. They don't last as long as something like a knotted wire wheel on a grinder, but they get the metal cleaner and shinier with less marks in the steel. I like them a lot. And my drill has never chased me around the yard like my grinder did when it caught an edge and jumped out of my hands, lol. It was like something out of Scooby Doo, hahaha! :D

    I *heart* these...

Tomorrow, I hope to finish up the other side of that front bed panel and try to get the grill panels and rear cross sill nice and shiny and ready for epoxy primer.

Those are expensive, but work well. I stripped my entire coupe with them for about $50 bucks and about 5 hours of time. Looks like you scored dude! Word of advice with those things is to save the ones, especially the ones that are about to the metal disc... they get into corners really well.. If you want tilt the drill so they wear funky and those are perfect for edges.

I shot you a PM with a rough estimate, but can get you a very accurate one tomorrow after lunch tomorrow. Can I call you on your number or was that some other number with the accurate quote?

Soon you'll be needing some new ink to commemorate your journey into and from the abyss known only as King Of Trucks............may I suggest a Tu-nicorn.

    Rad tats yo!

Yesterday, I finished stripping the front bed panel and started on the two front end pieces and the rear cross sill for the bed. I got the outside of all the pieces done. I think I'm going to take the rear cross sill to the blaster as I can't get down inside it very well. Anyway, the front bed panel turned out super nice. It'll be the only piece on the truck that won't require any body work whatsoever, lol.

Last night at shop night, Professor Shawn (also known as Pee Paw for his Grand Marquis) checked out the new rear end. He says it should be fine. I'm relieved. We determined the gear ratio to be 3.90 which is taller than the current 3.73. Backlash was .008 so that's good as well. The bearings appear good too.

Today, I got the rear cover back on the rear and got everything all cleaned up and ready for the POR15. I'll paint if off the truck sometime in the next couple of days. Once that's done, I'll have to take the truck off the road for a couple of days to remove the old rear and finish cleaning the frame in preparation for the POR15 there. Then, of course, install the new rear and bleed the brakes. Maybe this weekend, but probably not. Probably more like by Wednesday next week I'll be back rolling and ready to start installing the new bed.

    Pics soon...

Wheels came back from chrome today. They turned out pretty nice. I want to try to do the rear swap/paint this weekend. Anyway, pics of wheels tomorrow.

These new fronts make the rears with old chrome look like dookie. I guess I'll be getting the rears redone now. C'est la vie.

When I picked them up yesterday, I for real blinded myself when they caught the sun's reflection. This is the best work I've ever gotten back from this guy. I was kicking myself mentally for a bit after dropping them off because I forgot to mention I wanted the centers around the lugs polished. He must've read my mind, lol.
