    Not just "Bantam-based" -
    American Bantam actually offered
    a 1/4 ton "sedan-delivery" or "panel
truck" body like that as a production
item. Here's a couple of pics showing
some 1/4 ton Bantam "panels" -
    the first from a 1937 A-B factory
catalog and the second pic of a
    restored 1939 model.

    Thinking about those Bantam panels
gave me a really "sick" idea for a rod.
    Maybe not strictly "traditional" but
    what'da'ya' think? How about a
    full-fendered, near-stock bodied
    Bantam panel body, channeled over
a custom steel tube frame, with some
    sort of late-model-style front-drive
transaxle mounted in the rear bed
area behind the seats and hooked
    to a transverse-mounted turbo'd
& EFI 2.3 Pinto engine, set at about
    400 hp! Tiny, super-light weight,
with a ton of horsepower, 'traditional'
    'mid-30's-style body styling, go
    kart-like handling and beucoup
    traction! Woo Hoo!!!:eek::D

Yes, sir! They were the motor of choice up until the Hondas and other bikes came along in the late 60s.

When I was flagging with UMRA in the early 60s, I think they were nearly all Crosleys. The only motor giving them a real run for it at the time was a Koenig, in Ronnie Ambrose's mount.
