I was at a junk yard close to my home looking for some parts for my OT car and I stumbled across an old hot rod waiting to get crushed. The tag on it says its a '33 Chevrolet truck. There's a V8 in it, manual transmission and some type of ford rear end. I can't buy the whole truck from the yard but if anyone could help me identify which parts are worth saving and maybe I can grab them before it gets crushed that would be great! I'll let the pictures tell the rest.

Mid 30s chevy truck. The tag is probably right. Too bad you can't buy the cab, and then go back for the frame. It would be a good start to a fun project.

  3. rear looks like a '56 chev. Save the cab!!! they don't make them anymore

Yeah, I got that far with identifying it already I'm mainly wondering if some of the parts on it (front end, rear end, steering, drivetrain) are worth saving since it looks like this truck was a hot rod at some point in its life.

Unreal. I just cannot believe some of the stuff that is getting scrapped lately. WTF is wrong with people?

The tag on it said it was a early 1930's chevrolet dump truck. The engine, cowl, and dump bed all looked to be intact.

And guys I would try and get this out piece by piece but this project would be way above my skill set right now.

  9. Cab, distributer. The engine is just a low performance small block. Maybe the exhaust maifolds, they would help someone with steering box clearance issues.

Looks like someone has already cut the roof loose on the cab, so if they won't sell you the entire cab go with some buddies and each on buy a piece.

Unless someone identifies that rear as an olds or a poncho it isn't worth having. The frame isn't worth much either.

The sad reality is the money the yard gave the guy that scrapped it was equal to or more than the project would sell for on the open market. Heck, I brought some junk Model A heads a crank and other odds and ends that fit in the trunk and walked away with $75.00 last week. I'm build a pile for Monday. Bob

  11. That is the whole drivetrian out of a 55-57 chevy. That rear is NOT Ford.

  12. '34-'35 Chevy. 283? 4sp?
    Looks familiar...

Thanks for clarifying! I only have worked on newer GM vehicles and didn't know the 55-57 chevy rear ends had a removable center section.. Learn something new everyday

"any parts that are worth saving"... there are only a few parts there not worth saving.

265 or early 283. there is 200 bucks worth of parts on that motor. am I the only one who has parted out an early motor? bellhousing and trans has value as well

is that a posi tag on the 55-57 Chevy rear end

"The engine is just a low performance small block"... very disapointed in you this morning Mr. Beaner.:D

every nut, bolt and bracket has value on these early motors. does the motor have provisions for side mounts? does it have an oil filter where they are supposed to be? 55 265's had the oil filter on the intake manifold.

  16. The exhaust manifold appears to be off of a 265. If the valve cover bolts are staggered, it is probably a 265 and not a 283.

That exhaust manifold may have some demand for those wanting to clear steering boxes the old way.

  17. Look how nice that driver's door looks! Someone is looking for that...

The trans is an overdrive, probably worth $200 or more.

Do I see a truck bellhousing with side mounts on it, or are my eyes deceiving me ?

I think there are a lot of parts on there to salvage and worth a few bucks.

    damn shame...

The rear is not a posi, if it were, it would have a big P cast into the center. The tag is just an ID tag the number of cut off flats helps identify it. As mentioned, it's from a 56 car, from the casting date. The whole drivetrain probably is from the same car. Cars had side mounts on the bellhousing, it's hard to see if it's a car or truck bell, but my guess would be car since that's what the rear is out of

Chassis looks like early 30s chevy car or truck, I dont know enough to know which...but it could be a 33 truck chassis?

A shame it got left outside so many decades, because I'd bet it was a great driving/good looking hotrod truck.

Looks like a pretty good build for back then. I don't see the normal hacks all over. Look at how nice the exhaust was done.

What maybe $300? I would give $300 for that cab so fast I would blister my ass pulling my wallet out.

I can't see an oil filter on the block behind the steering box. If there is none then it is a 55 265 which has some value to the restorers. My first driving hot rod came with a 55 265 and I got 200 bucks for it in 1980.

Oil filter on a 265 was optional, the boss was there but there was a block off plate installed if it didn't have the filter.

Looks like the trans is an overdrive.

Id yank the complete shifter mechanism off of it and id pull the cap, that about it for any real value.

The filter was an option but it was on the intake manifold. My 55 265 block did not have any sign of the block mounted oil filter that came on the 56 and up engines. that is what makes the 55 block so valuable. a one year only block for the 55. some restorers might pay to have 8 sleeves installed just to save that block. I sold my core 55 for 200 1979 dollars. When SBCs were everywhere.
