All SBC´s made prior to 1959 came w/the staggered valve cover bolt pattern. Including the ´57-´58 -model 283´s.

If that is a 56 overdrive it is almost gold to some people who are hunting for them.
That truck probably ended up wasting away in someone's back yard when the wood fell apart in the cab. The whole thing is still a gold mine of parts and pieces for a lot of guys projects. I'd love to have the frame axles and wheels for one of mine.

Yes they did and the center-section/ pumpkin can be used on the ´58-´64 axle housing, as well.

    I'm pretty sure I spied an oil filter canister down there...would make it a 1956 265/2 barrel...162hp.

Thanks for clearing up the 55 filter boss deal. I know my memory should be questioned by ME at least once a day, but dam, I was "positive" there was no boss on those.

"positive" meaning 87.6% and the percentage dropping each year.:(

I questioned my memory too so it was off to google images to check before putting my foot in my mouth again.:D

  11. Pyro,

the37kid alerted me to your thread- do you have any better pics of the early truck next to the one you're asking about? It may have an engine/parts that I'm looking for.

I may be in the Rochester area this summer visiting some family and could pick them up.

    Thanks, Bill (Mac the Yankee)

Pyro. Check that brake / clutch pedal assembly. It may be aftermarket, Ansen or the like. Even if the pedals are late 1950's Ford truck it is a good unit to use...I would think that doors would be the easiest to take and have the most value? Everyone with an old truck is looking for doors it seems...David.

  13. The door on that one looks better than the doors on my truck!

I'd check that too, especially with the twin master cylinders it has. Neat unit, glad at least some parts can be saved.

    Mac - I'm shootin you a PM

Thanks for the suggestions guys... I figure this would be the place to see if any of it was saveable. I'm going to try and make it out there tomorrow and check everything out better, hopefully I'll have time to grab some things. If not I'll be praying that the trucks will still be there in 2 weeks when I'm home again!

This is just a guess, but perhaps the entire drivetrain originally came out of the same car??? The date code on the rear end looks like it could be for a 1956 Chevy. This would also match up with the exhaust manifolds. The 3 speed O.D. looks to be a 55 - 57 trans, (no tailshaft motor mount). Is the distributor a window style? If not that would also be 1955 or 1956 Chevy, (unless it is a factory dual point).

The throttle arm looks like it's from a 55 - 57 Chevy, as do the front motor mount brackets.

Went back before the yard closed today to grab some parts and take more pictures of the other truck (33? chevy)
Someone started stripping the trucks already but I managed to grab the full hood, both doors and the dual master pedal assembly (can anyone help identify this?)

Time is an issue as I have to go back to school tomorrow and wont be back for two weeks... Aside from possibly the transmission (can anyone confirm if it is a 3 speed w/ OD and how much its worth) what other parts could I easily get? The cowl on the other truck looks to be in pretty good shape so I might try for that.

Thanks for all the info you guys have provided so far! I don't know alot about these earlier vehicles but I figured I'd save what I can.

    Anyways heres more pictures:

  21. GM stamp kinda gives it away.......

  22. Pyro,

Thanks for making that run! That's a 30-31 Chevrolet truck- a bit too new for what I'm looking for, but there are still good pieces on it that you could turn over on espay.

    Thanks again, Bill

    That's an R-10 3 speed O/D trans. worth a few bucks.
