UP must have done some serious mechanical upgrading at the same time they added the shroud-witness the roller bearing rods and trailer truck. I'm sure that an engine built in the '20s was not so equipped.

 

American Cars In Venezuela – 1956. Can anyone positivly ID the Pontiac Wagon as a Safari ? All the details are here.

We always called these "Maypops"

 

It appears to be a Safari. Another question is what is the sedan on the upper left? Russian?

 

It appears that it is a Packard.

 

it is a 1956 Packard Caribbean and you may mixed it up with russian 1959 GAZ 13 (Chaika)

 

I suggest you take a closer look. It is nota Packard and definitely not a Caribbean.

 

In amongst those Studebaker Trucks, wopuld certainly suggest it is a Packard. 56 in fact.



The Pontiac doesn't seem to share the sculptured B pillar that were shared with the Nomad. It also seems to hav the normal stationwagon rear pillars ranter thant he curved ones.

 

On further close examination, I stand corrected. It is a Packard sedan, but not a Caribbean. For some reason, I was unable to see the center emblem on the grille.

How come no head lights or motor in the wagon?could you order them like that or are these stolen and shipped overseas like today?

 

Seeing the early bird in the bottom picture makes me want to get one to finish my mid life crisis,I already have the younger girlfriend and a Harley so a sports car will complete it. A early bird is the closest I want to be to a sports car.

 

James Dean in his 1954 Porsche 356 Pre-A Speedster
1954 Porsche 356 Pre-A Speedster 1500 Super, white (color code 603), chassis # 80126 (not 82621!), engine #41014.
Dean purchased this car in March 1955 for a bit less than 4,000 dollars to use it for racing (in the same year he bought a white 1955 Ford Country Squire station wagon as his daily driver).
This shot was taken on March 26th, 1955 in Palm Springs, Cal., USA, before Dean participated in a race. The picture shows him talking to motorcycle racer Ed Kretz.
Dean won the preliminary race, qualifying him for the finals. There, he finished the race in third place, but Ken Miles was disqualified later on a technicality and Dean was bumped up to second place.
With this car, James Dean participated in two more races: in Bakersfield (May 1st, 1955), he won his class and finished 3rd overall. In Santa Barbara (May 28-29, 1955), he blew a piston while on fourth position.
In late September of that year, Dean traded his 356 for the infamous Porsche 550 Spyder.
