I just did one of those instep flamed "hot rod" ones for my sone to be coming nephew. I gutted it, and made wheel wells out of some patch panels for a 6?-7? Chev pick-up cab corners, and I used some Swivel casters up front that have wheels that resemble Fruit-Booter wheels (roller-blade wheels for you non-skaters..) That raise the front wheels off the ground just about 1/8" so it steers like a stroller... I made the frame out of 1/2x1/2 square tubing, drilled thru the frame for the axels, it sits very low.... I will look and see if I have pics to post....
And here is where we are at today. Body work ruffed in, ready for primer and some color... Getting there slowly but surely....
Here's one I built for my son....about 30 years ago. It's too bad the ex-wife backed over it before before my son had a chance to really enjoy it. Doc
Here's the '36 roadster stroller I did for our daughter a few years back. It steered thru' the push bar. I was always gonna' convert it to a pedal car when she grew, but she grew too damn fast!
Now a kid could sleep in that car,,got her reclined a bit..Very nice car...Thanks to 33Tudor I now know my pedal car is a 1936 Steelcraft model 540 1936-1942 Chevrolet Browsing through these pics you can bet the builders are having as much fun as the children.
This thread reminded me that I have a Caddy model hanging around that I haven't done anything with yet. It was made by FX model makers for the movie "Escape from L.A". They made a mold and pulled three bodies, two of which were used in the film and the third sold to Adam West. Yeah, that guy. The rear fins were damaged in the mold release and would need to be rebuilt and the whole thing primed again. I think these would be cool stroller/pedal cars. Anyone in the molding/fibreglass business interested in making them? Doesn't look like I'll live the three lifetimes needed to finish all my projects.
My favorite stock pedalcar has always been the 58 Murray "Good Humor" There are lots that are worth more, but none that are more fun! That 55 Chevy is NUTS! NICE WORK!!
Check this one out: http://memebase.com/2012/03/26/internet-memes-this-baby-is-already-way-cooler-than-i-ever-will-be/
I see in the background one of those PROBE 3 ,3-wheel lever steer cars with the Pontiac GTO nose and T-Bird rear. Like the external rear mag wheels, mine still has the inside wheels.
Congratulations Biskit ! After DrDave's surgery last year, TopGear UK has again discovered the marvels of the HAMB : in this case you son's pedal car. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/flame-spitting-lowrider-baby-buggy-stroller-2012-04-04 Enjoy the fame. Prepare to sue if you didn't allow them to use the video ;-] EDIT : that is such a cool stroller. My kids are jealous. I'm jealous too ! Wish I had something like that when I was 2yo.
Sweet cars here! My pops found one that looks like a 1945 lincoln he is trying to get. It will have the custom treatment done to it quickly!
Here's the one I'm doing for my little girl. I'm trying to find a metal steering wheel and I need to attach the push bar. I'm going to lower it in the rear a little more. Got the wheels off one of the kids grocery carts at Kroger. It rolls like a dream.
here is the steering wheel from my grandsons tub car, it is a valve wheel from a old gate valve. These can be purchased at truck supply stores that sell heavy truck parts, like for highway tractoers, tankers etc, less than 15 bucks. This one has spent some time on a lathe cleaning it up, but very workable. this one is hooked to the steering of the wagon i made
Sorry, but you must leave now. The "Over-The-Top" police have stepped in, and declared your effort "Over-The-Top". I love it!! BTW, grandson's turning 2 on the 28th, and his first pedal car is in hiding, waiting...
