Here's a 46 Merc I bought years ago. 99a 962**x stamped on the deck. It has Thickstun heads and manifold with 48 carbs. Turns over easy but has very little compression. It came with a chrome generator, I took off for My 32. It was painted gold originally but I have no history on it. Just thought you guys might enjoy seeing it.
Hope I'm not digging this up from too far back but I saw a lot of nice setups in here. I'm not anywhere close to the majority of what is posted in here but here's my 8ba that I picked up this last summer for my model A pickup. The truck was originally going to get a 283 SBC until I stumbled on this at BTT50's and had to have it. Its not much now, but it runs. Going to run it as is for a few years after some cleaning, valve work, new head gaskets, and some paint. At this point I have more time into the engine stand and headers (priorities right?) I only hope that when I finally tear it apart that I don't find any serious cracks.
great work. i have heard of instances when the cast-in bellhousing breaks when supporting a complete engine on a stand. are the french blocks stronger? any thoughts? best of luck on all of your projects...jack
Looging really nice! I like them Baron Heads! Please post some more pictures! If you can, a picture from the front? ..................................... Taildragger&fenderless
My old Hornet motor broke both compression rings on #5 last year. Already .060 over on the bore and .030/.030 on the crank I went to plan B. The spare motor that came with the car ended up being a NOS never run factory deal that had been stored not so well. Now going together as 7X Nascar replica with more cam/bigger valves. Can't wait.
Hombres Ruin, Haven't gotten that far yet but I'm thinking of finding the biggest, squarest k&n rated for this engine size then cutting it up (rubber dipping the edges to hold) and stuffing it in there. Fenderless, I'll see if I have a front shot to post. (looked I didn't have any shots worth posting, sorry)
Its really hard to get anything to fit that i have spoken to many people who use that scrubbing pad made of metal wire stuff and they make it fit and swear by it..i just dont want metal elements flying into my carb
Here is my third flattie. 48 Ford, Hillborn injection. This is the oldest living example of a Hilborn Fuel Injection. unit number 16. Built in January, 1950. Original non-stack unit. Magneto is by Harmon Collins. This engine goes in the 31 lowboy Ford roadster that was built and raced by Pete Dean of San Diego in the early fifties. It was called Mother's Cookies.
here is mine - hopefully pics will work. I wanted mechanical accelerator linkages............... yes I know cable is easlier but I want what I want so 3 days latter And here is a motor shot from the other side Engine is an 8BA flathead with a merc 4 inch crank - almost ready to go together for the final time. Need to run some oil lines and check valve to head clearance then that should be it
Thanks for the interest Blower is a GM453, manifold is a 2 carb Luberg (Australian) machined flat with a custom plate to the blower - BDS blow off valve fitted to front of adaptor and pressure relief valve fitted to snout. Carb adaptors - custom machined as is the rear cover plate. Carbs are blower referenced 94's Blower snout is a modified M90 from a V6 Commadore. Oiling of blower is via main oil feed from block (oil feed and return lines not run yet - oil goes in the side of the blower and drains back to block via internal lines in adaptor plate -then back into block in front of oil breather). Custom pullies - tension on belt is via alternator - hoping to get away with 1 v belt but if it slips will chnge to 2 belts. Have a good mate who did all the machine work
